We use food as the thread that weaves together:
*TASTE-The Food Itself
:Authentic dishes from Malay, Chinese, Indian, Peranakan communities. Hawker stalls locals have loved for generations
This is real Malaysian cuisine, not tourist versions
*WALK - Heritage Discovery
: 10+ historical landmarks, temples, clan associations, colonial architecture. Understanding the people explains the food.
*LEARN - Cultural Context
: Immigration stories, religious traditions, community dynamics, historical events.Temples, shophouses, heritage sites. Every dish has a story
*LEARN A FEW LOCAL WORDS- Language Immersion
: How to say thank you in Hokkien/Cantonese/Bahasa(Malay). Language creates connection; vendors light up when you try!
*CONNECT - Human Interaction
: Conversations with hawkers.Face-to-face at stalls, with your guide facilitating.
*UNDERSTAND - The Bigger Picture
: How Malaysia's multicultural society works, why Penang food is unique. You leave not just fed, but transformed

We meet at the Kapitan Keling Mosque which is located close to some of the best Malay food in town. You'll learn more about the Malay community and how its dishes have mixed with other cultures.
Goddess of Mercy Temple (Kuan Yin Teng)
As we approach Kuan Yin Teng (观音亭), the Goddess of Mercy Temple, the air shifts - thick with incense smoke that curls toward the sky, carrying countless prayers. Built in 1728, this is Penang's oldest Chinese temple and remains one of the most active, vibrant centers of worship in Georgetown. Your guide will explain why this temple isn't just a historic landmark - it's the beating heart of Georgetown's Chinese community. Your guide will point out the architectural beauty of the temple and share "Kuan Yin"-one of the most beloved deities in Chinese Buddhism.

What an excellent way to explore the city and the cuisine. We ate in three restaurants covering the 3 main cuisines. Malay (Nyonya) Indian & Chinese. Gary our guide knew the food very well explained the history and cooking techniques. Also allowed us enough choice that no one missed out. Additionally he has a strong knowledge of history and culture of the place. We learnt a lot and got some excellent recommendations for future meals and nights out. Cannot recommend highly enough

This was just what we wanted, a cultural tour alongside a street-food one. Our guide Wei Shen was incredibly personable and knowledgeable on all aspects of Georgetown and Penang island. We had a great time and would thoroughly recommend this tour. Above all it gave us the confidence to walk in to food court s and order dishes we wouldn’t have contemplated doing before!

This was our second Simply Enak tour. First one with Jackie in KL, enjoyed it so much we decided to do another in Penang. There was no overlapping with food. Fabulous tour! Highly recommend! Great mix of foods, drinks, culture & history. Wei Shen is very knowledgeable!

Excellent tour with our amazing guide, Ronald! We sampled many delicious dishes that represent the diverse culture within Penang, and learned some interesting history along the way. We left feeling full but not overly stuffed, and felt the tour was the perfect blend of food and culture.

Could not recommend this tour more! As a foodie this tour was fantastic, we had such a range of food and they were also able to fully cater to our dietary requirements. The entire evening was very memorable and incredibly tasty. I try to do a food tour in every country I visit and this was easily in my top 2 food tours. The 4 hours seems like a long time but it is in fact perfect, we never felt rush and we had so much fun we didn’t even realise the time was going. I recommend it to everyone who wants to try the flavours of Penang! Also make sure to come with an empty belly and also pace yourself, you’ll want to try everything so try not to go too fast

Absolutely the best food experience! We had a tour with Wei Shein, who paced the entire excursion perfectly. We enjoyed a wonderful mix of culture, food, and history as we explored old George Town. No one left hungry or felt like we missed out on anything. We visited places of worship, admired street art, sampled food from the best street vendors, and met the families living on Chew Clan Jetty. I highly recommend this tour!
