Valley of the Kings, long narrow defile just west of the Nile River in Upper Egypt. It was part of the ancient city of Thebes and was the burial site of almost all the kings (pharaohs) of the 18th, 19th, and 20th dynasties (1539–1075 BCE), from Thutmose I to Ramses X. Located in the hills behind Dayr al-Baḥrī, the 62 known tombs exhibit variety both in plan and in decoration. In 1979 UNESCO designated the valley part of the World Heritage site of ancient Thebes, which also includes Luxor, the Valley of the Queens, and Karnak.

Temple of Hatshepsut

The mortuary temple of Hatshepsut is a mortuary temple built during the reign of Pharaoh Hatshepsut of the Eighteenth Dynasty of Egypt. Located opposite the city of Luxor, it is considered to be a masterpiece of ancient architecture. Its three massive terraces rise above the desert floor and into the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari. Her tomb, KV20, lies inside the same massif capped by El Qurn, a pyramid for her mortuary complex. At the edge of the desert, 1 km east, connected to the complex by a causeway lies the accompanying valley temple. Across the river Nile, the whole structure points towards the monumental Eighth Pylon, Hatshepsut's most recognizable addition to the Temple of Karnak and the site from which the procession of the Beautiful Festival of the Valley departed.

Its archaeological significance and high state of preservation have made it a center for tourism in Egypt and a frequent stop for the many riverboats that cruise the Nile. In 2005, access to the temple was revamped with the addition of a visitor center and paved parking lot. A lighting system was added in late 2006 to allow nighttime visits.

These rapids and the surrounding area have been variously flooded since the initial construction of the Aswan Low Dam in 1902. The temple complex was dismantled and moved to nearby Agilkia Island as part of the UNESCO Nubia Campaign project, protecting this and other complexes before the 1970 completion of the Aswan High Dam. The hieroglyphic reliefs of the temple complex are being studied and published by the Philae Temple Text Project of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, Vienna.

I went alone and it turned into a trip where I made friends for life The cruise had a great vibe not too party but definitely social I met a group of guys at the pool on the first day and we ended up doing all the tours together The guide was fantastic with our little crew he was funny and made the history lessons entertaining especially at Kom Ombo temple where he showed us the crocodile mummies The experience of taking a felucca ride in Aswan was a highlight so peaceful and different from the big ship The admission fee included so much I barely spent any extra money just on a few souvenirs The length of visit at each temple was perfect we had time to explore and take photos without being rushed The atmosphere on the ship at night was fun they had a Nubian show that was really cool The staff were super friendly and remembered our drink orders from day one The crowd size was good the ship was full but it never felt like a sardine can The views from the top deck while sailing are just unbeatable green fields desert and water This cruise is best for solo travelers who are open to meeting people The guide even helped us book a great spot for dinner in Luxor after the cruise ended Above and beyond

I went on this cruise with a friend and we had the time of our lives We are both into photography so this trip was a dream come true Every stop was more beautiful than the last We woke up early one morning to catch the sunrise over the Nile and the colors were just magical The ship sailed smoothly and it was so peaceful just sitting there with a coffee watching life on the riverbanks The guide was a really cool guy he knew all the best spots for photos at Edfu temple away from the crowds He also told us stories about the gods that were so entertaining The experience of visiting Abu Simbel was the highlight the sheer size of those statues is mind blowing The atmosphere in Aswan was more laid back than Luxor we loved the boat ride to Philae Temple The staff on the ship were always smiling and helpful one guy even showed us how to tie a traditional Egyptian scarf The admission fee was clear and we felt we got great value for a 5 day trip including all the excursions The crowd was fine at most places except the Valley of the Kings which was busy but again the guide navigated it well The length of visit at each site felt perfect we never felt rushed This is best for friends traveling together looking for adventure and amazing photos

I was on this cruise for a business retreat type thing a group of us from work went to disconnect and bond and it worked perfectly The ship had a great mix of relaxation and activity During the day we explored temples like Kom Ombo which is unique because its dedicated to two gods then we would have meetings or just chill on the deck in the afternoon The experience of being on the water really helped everyone relax and talk The staff were professional and discreet they handled our group of 15 with no issues at all The admission fee for the whole package was sorted by our company but from what I saw it covered everything including the amazing food The atmosphere on the ship was upscale but comfortable the lounge area was perfect for our evening chats The crowd size on the excursions was fine because we had our own guide so we didnt mix with other big groups The length of visit at Luxor Temple was just enough we saw it by night which was stunning with the lights The history here is so deep our guide was a proper expert and answered all our questions no matter how detailed This is best for business groups who want a mix of work and a truly memorable setting The highlight was probably the sail by at Edfu seeing the temple from the water as the sun went down was special

I took this trip with my wife for our anniversary and from start to finish it was perfect We had a cabin with a balcony which I highly recommend just watching the world go by from your room is therapy The guide was a lovely guy he made sure we had a private moment at Philae Temple when it was quieter and he took some great photos of us The experience of seeing the High Dam in Aswan was interesting but the real magic was the temples Abu Simbel was incredible the colors inside some of the tombs are still so vivid The admission fee felt like a good deal considering the quality of the ship and the private guiding The length of visit at each site was well paced we never felt exhausted or bored The atmosphere on the ship was romantic at night with the lights and the quiet lapping of the water The staff went above and beyond they set up a little cake and sang for our anniversary which was so sweet The crowd size at Karnak was large but our guide knew how to weave through and find quiet corners The whole trip felt luxurious but not stuffy The food was delicious every meal was a mix of local and international dishes This cruise is definitely best for couples celebrating something special

We booked this trip kinda last minute and honestly it was the best decision ever From the moment we got to the ship in Luxor everything was smooth The guide picked us up right on time and helped with our bags The ship itself was way fancier than I expected super clean and the staff knew your name by day two We did the Abu Simbel optional trip and let me tell you waking up early was so worth it The temples there are massive and our guide explained everything in a way that made history feel alive not like a boring school lesson The atmosphere on the ship was chill during the day when we were sailing and watching the green fields go by but at night they had a Galabeya party which was hilarious to see everyone trying on the traditional clothes The crowds at the temples were fine we went in winter so busy but organized The only place that felt packed was Karnak but again our guide knew the quiet spots to take photos The staff were all super helpful especially the dining room team always making sure we had enough water The price for the cruise felt fair for what you get all food all entry fees included and a private guide which makes a huge difference This is honestly best for couples who want a mix of romance and adventure

We took this cruise as a family with our two teenagers and honestly it was one of those trips that brings everyone together I was worried the kids would get bored looking at old stones but the guide was amazing at keeping them engaged He made it like a treasure hunt at the Valley of the Kings getting them to spot the differences in the tombs The ship had a small pool which was a lifesaver after hot mornings walking around temples like Hatshepsuts which is incredible by the way The atmosphere on the ship was family friendly not too rowdy at night which was good for us The crowd size during the tours was manageable because we had a private guide so we could move at our own pace The staff were so kind to the kids always giving them extra cookies at tea time The admission fee for the whole package was worth it because everything was included meals transport entry to all the sites on the itinerary we didnt have to worry about a thing The length of visit was good we spent about two hours at Karnak which was enough to see the highlights without the kids melting down The experience of watching the sun set over the Nile from the deck while the family played cards was priceless This cruise is best for families who want a hassle free holiday with a bit of education thrown in

  • Morning Views Of Daily Nile Life

    joelY3077MR,Mar 4, 2026

    - Review from Tripadvisor

    5.00

The Nile Cruise offered a unique moment when passing traditional villages and seeing farmers along the river. Sitting on deck in the early morning, watching daily life unfold, felt like stepping into another era. The ship moved slowly enough to observe details without being intrusive. Meals were pleasant and full-board options ensured convenience. Evening entertainment was light and enjoyable, complementing the reflective mood of the day. This section of the cruise emphasized connection with living Nile culture rather than just monuments.

  • Boat Arrival Makes Temple Visit Unique

    - Review from Tripadvisor

Philae Temple’s approach by boat added anticipation and a sense of ceremony. Arriving at the temple, which had been relocated to avoid flooding, reinforced the story of preservation. Youssef highlighted key architectural features while allowing time for personal observation. Onboard, cabins were comfortable and offered serene river views. Full-board meals provided variety and were timed for convenience, allowing a seamless blend of cultural exploration and onboard relaxation. This portion of the cruise proved that thoughtful planning creates memorable experiences.

  • Edfu Temple Crafts Ancient Stories Clearly

    jacobdD7668NQ,Mar 1, 2026

    - Review from Tripadvisor

    5.00

Edfu Temple impressed through its size and preserved reliefs, which conveyed daily life in ancient times. The private cruise ensured a quiet visit with time to reflect on the craftsmanship. Onboard, the ship offered lounge areas and a swimming pool to relax after walking through the temple. Dinner was served in a way that balanced luxury and casual comfort. Observing the sunset from the deck afterward made the day feel complete, tying together history, river scenery, and relaxation in one cohesive experience.
