What To Expect
Altun Ha
This tour takes us to the Altun Ha Maya Ruin. This ruin was once a trading center in this region and is the ruin at which one of Belize's national treasures was found, the Jade Head. The best photo opportunities on this tour come after hiking to the tops of the highest structures where the Mayan elite once occupied which offers a panoramic view of this Mayan site as well as the surrounding pristine jungle.
Nohoch Che'en Caves Branch Archaeological Reserve
The second part of this tour takes us to the caves at Jaguar Paw! The Maya thought that these caves led to Xibabla, an underworld ruled by the Maya death gods and their helpers in K'iche' Maya mythology. Upon reaching the caves and the river, you can take a dip and admire the beauty of the rocks and cave entrance. After that you can tube down the river and into the caves that contain art work and interesting rock formations within!

5.00This was great because we got to do two excursions at once. Through the cruise line it was either cave tubing or Mayan ruins. But this group made sure we got to do both. I was worried about missing the ship at the end of the day, but they were in constant contact with each other making sure we got back to the port on time. Jose called me before to make sure my concerns were addressed. He gave me a hug at the terminal. It felt like we were friends. Jeff was our driver. The potholes were the most adventurous part of the excursion. Jeff knew where they were and we missed every single one of them. What a challenge. Several in my group had to cancel, so I went by myself and Jeff made sure I was comfortable. I made new friends. Thanks Crew. Great time.

1.00Our tour guide scammed us. We had some down time between two of the excursions (Altun Ha Maya Ruin and Cave Tubing Adventure) so he recommended to show me and my family the Belize zoo. He was very friendly, hospitable and knowledgeable about the culture. At the end of the day when he dropped us off at the airport we gave him a VERY handsome tip. Then he said we still owed him for the zoo. We asked how much was the cost (the tip was so 'handsome' we thought that would cover the costs) and he told us it was $60 each and $50 for my 10-year son. But he dismissed the fee for my son. We thought that was odd and yet still very expensive for a zoo tour but we didn't argue and so we paid him $180 for the 3 adults. The next day while in San Pedro, Belize we decided to look up the entry cost for the Belize Zoo and turns out it was only $20 per adult and $10 for children. We called him and he denied any wrong doing. We then contacted Viator to resolve this issue but they simply dug in and sided with the tour guide. We will NEVER schedule another excursion with Viator (and we travel a lot).

Tarique was very knowledgeable and shared the area, history and local plants and animals we encountered along the way. We really enjoyed our tour!

5.00Cruise port 2-person private tour. Couldn’t ask for a better driver/tubing guide/ historian than Abel! Great walk in the rainforest to the river/ cave system. Incredible tubing in the caves!!! Delicious local lunch, and then off to see the Mayan temple sites. Several local markets along to way to get souvenirs. Abel made sure we got back in plenty of time for cruise departure. All entrance fees and lunch included. Booked directly with Jose Tours Belize. Easy to communicate with ahead of time. Private tour is the way to go to avoid the crowds! Ask for Abel!!!

5.00We had an excellent tour! We were visiting as part of the cruise ship and got back in plenty of time to catch the tender boat back. Our guide, Charles was very knowledgeable and shared tons of captivating insight about Belize from prehistoric times to modern days. We loved the cave tubing, it was both fun and incredible experience! The private tour allowed us to get everywhere efficiently and without the crowds. We were also able to rent water shoes and phone water-protective case at the site. We had a nice walk through the rainforest, as Charles pointed out different plants and wildlife. The tubes were waiting for us near the cave entrance, so we did not have to carry them much. Charles did all the navigation in the cave, explaining different shapes and other details. We really enjoyed the cave and river tubing, it was truly amazing! The lunch after was much welcomed and delicious!! Altun Ha Mayan Ruin was very interesting and we got to climb the tallest. We were there without the crowds and the place felt magical! This was by far one of the best experiences we’ve had in our many travels! We would highly recommend this tour and Charles as the guide!!

5.00What a great day! Jose took fantastic care of our day! The tubing is great, definitely bring water shoes and be prepared to walk a pretty good distance carrying a tube. It’s worth it though!

2.00Felt like we were being hustled the entire trip. Hearing how sick our tour guides son was with a multi hour focus on the cost of treatment. Doesn’t Belize have free healthcare? As a doctor myself I could tell the story was a lie. Then when it was mentioned I’m a veterinarian I was questioned as to why I didn’t bring free flea prevention. Pretty tasteless.

5.00This was a GREAT tour. Our guide, Eric, was fantastic! The cave tubing was a lot of fun, and the Mayan ruins were beautiful. Eric even coaxed a beautiful little tarantula out of it's hole in the ground. We even got the chance to meet Jose, the owner of the company. If at all possible, it would be amazing to have both Eric and Jose on the tour. Jose is hilarious and quite a character! Don't tour Belize without them.

5.00Belize is beautiful. Eric from Jose Tours was a fantastic tour guide. The cave tubing was awesome. Eric gave us great insight to the Mayan ruins as well. I can't say enough good things about Eric and this tour. We were on a cruise ship and only had so much time to spend on this excursion. Because you have to take a boat tender from ship to shore, we were quite late for our excursion. Jose and Eric were so understanding and know all of this beforehand. They were so accommodating and made sure we got to experience everything within the time we had. If you tour Belize, look nowhere else but Jose Tours and ask for Eric or Jose himself. You will not be disappointed unless you are grumpy and don't have personality.
