The visibility of Northern lights depends for example on the weather and activity of the Sun, but this trip is to offer you the best chance to see the lights on the best possible location in Ivalo – Saariselka area. We take it seriously
Our sites are absolute dark far from the village lights and hotels. This is important because most of the lights are relatively faint so in absolute darkness you will see much more.
The longer you stay the more you see. This is why our tour is relatively long. The best hour to see the lights is just before the midnight but the best lights may appear whenever. On the way to the site we stop the car even several times if needed and follow the lights.
During this tour we also spend nice time in a tepee on the best possible site for following the sky and barbeque for all tastes and diets.
We will also advice you in taking pictures and we will make pictures ourselves which we share with you from our cloud service.
We follow the daily weather forecast

Very bad experience with this excursion (private tour with Northern Lights with an expert and photography) was again very disappointing with an email indicating a meeting point at our hotel at 7 p.m. We contacted him at 7:20 p.m. still not seeing anyone arriving at the hotel and came across the manager again, still unfriendly and dishonest, telling us that his driver was late and that he would arrive at 9 p.m., but that 'he wouldn't reimburse us. When the guide finally arrived at 9 p.m., the Northern Lights had been visible above our heads for an hour. The very friendly guide apologized because he had not taken his camera and explained to us that he had just dropped off the previous tourist group. The schedules having meanwhile completely disappeared behind the clouds, he suggested that we go for a barbecue.... When we asked him if he was an expert on the Northern Lights, he laughed and told us that he was seasonal and that in Finland everyone is an expert on the Northern Lights... If you are planning your dream trip to Lapland, AVOID this company at all costs.

(Download my app, NeilsTravels - both in Google and Apple stores for photos, video and a fuller report) Take my word, if you visit Finland and Lapland - pick Lapland Welcome for any tour. There is no one better. Spotting Auroras is luck, pure and simple. 3 things are required - Sun flares, clear dark nites and, less moon. That is just a starter. What is most needed - lots of luck - and God willing. Mr. Veli is a pro at picking times and spots away from light pollution of Rovaniemi - the nearby city. He has a few camps and his Aurora routine is well rehearsed. The first nite in Rovaniemi - Veli said - forget it. It was misty and foggy. That itself was a good sign of a great tour company. The second nite was promising. Veli picked me up at 9:30 pm. We drove away and away from light pollution. Unfortunately, the moon was half crescent and with clear nite, not a terribly dark nite. We went to his camp and got on an ATV to drive up a rocky hill top for even a better view. It was cold and almost freezing. But Veli is prepared for everything including the Siberian PPE. At the top, he has a built up igloo type with an open pit fire. After lighting up, we waited and waited for Auroras. Soon about midnight, clouds started pouring out of nowhere and we called it a nite. The next nite, I told Veli - let's start late. The night sky was even more shimmering at 10:00 pm when we set out. You could almost grab a star out of Milky Way. The moon was still a bit too bright but we soon found an abandoned shed to put us in its shadows. And we waited and waited and waited. Soon Veli spotted faint sightings of Aurora - always in the North just below the Bear. Auroras can last a minute or 2 or even less. Veli says, sometimes, you can blink your eyes and miss the whole thing. On our nite, Auroras appeared as a smoky crescent across the sky - up 30 deg or so. They were almost too faint for a 1st timer like me. But like someone turning up the stove, the show was on. Soon, shots of green Auroras shot up vertically. And then they did a little Michael Jackson MoonWalk. Soon, Aurora enveloped across half the sky just over tree tops and started moving laterally. All was in less than 7 minutes and the Fat Lady sang.
