This is a unique opportunity to visit the home of a local and explore traditional culture and cuisine. Yashna lives in a beautiful home with her parents and brothers, just 10 minutes from the airport. Her food is fresh and seasonal, she uses vegetables from her backyard garden and freshly caught fish. The cuisine of Mauritius is a blend of Chinese, European and Indian influences. Join Yashna in the kitchen to learn to cook her family recipes, that have been passed down from one generation to another. The duration of your hands-on class will be 2-3 hours. I had such a wonderful and unique experience with Yashna and her family. I really enjoyed the local food tour that Yashma showed me local market stalls and we tried variety of local food, which was super unique. After that I tried at-home cooking, which turned out to be the highlight of my trip. Not only did I get to taste authentic Mauritian food and desserts, but I also learned so much about the culture. Her mom Sadna was so warm and patient while teaching me how to cook dishes like Chicken Kalia Curry, Farata, Coconut Chutney, Chowchow Leaves, and Gato Batat (sweet potato dessert). The food was delicious, and cooking together felt like being part of their family. The whole family was so welcoming, I felt really well treated by local family. This is not just about food—it’s about connection, hospitality, and culture. I left with full heart, full stomach, and recipes I can’t wait to recreate at home. Highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Mauritius! 💕

We had such a lovely time with Yashna and her parents! They have a lovely home and made us feel so welcome. We got to both witness and participate in the cooking process of so many delicious dishes and we were all in a food coma by the time we left. Yashna told us a lot of interesting facts about Mauritius and it's people and she shared about her family's daily life on the island and her passion for representing it in an authentic way to visitors like us. The icing on the cake were her adorable puppies that we got to interact with before leaving. SO cute!! We really enjoyed ourselves and can highly recommend this experience to anyone wanting a 'taste' of the real Mauritius 😊 Thank you for having us! ❤️

My friends and I have been in Mauritius for two weeks, and the cooking experience with Yashna and her family was one of the best things we've done since we've been here. Yashna is a teacher and told us lots of stories and facts about the history and cultures of Mauritius. Her parents were very welcoming and kind. Plus the food was amazing - and very plentiful! It was great to be able to learn from a local and eat homemade, traditional Mauritian food. Highly recommend!
