So far, I've toured downtown Medellin (with this same company and guide), had two different food tours and now I can say I rode a horse through the Andes and toured a coffee farm. Out of all of my experiences, this one was by far the best and the reason why, was riding on horseback. The coffee farm and learning all about how the coffee was made was nice. Touring Jardin was nice as well, but, for me the main highlight was riding the horse. The other main highlight was my excellent guide, Daniela and her driver James. They were both excellent company and it was fun doing this trip with them. I've never ridden a horse before, so, if you are worried about not having any experience, they will give you a horse that they jokingly call "automatic". You don't have to know anything and it knows where it is going. Also, I don't want to diminish the other aspects of the tour. The coffee farm was beautiful, the owner and his wife were very nice and the coffee was delicious. The town of Jardin was beautiful as well and I enjoyed the famous coffee shop we stopped at. You should go on this tour! It's worth it!

We had an early start as the drive from Medellin to Jardin is long. We got to the lovely finca where the horses and a couple of cups of coffee were waiting for us. The views from the path we took with the horses were amazing and really allowed you to see the extent of the coffee farms and how steep the terrain actually is. Everyone was incredibly friendly (guides, coffee farmers, etc) and made sure we learned as much as we could from the hands-on experience. You don't need to be an expert horse rider to enjoy this tour. It was my boyfriend's first time on a horse, he was assigned the tamest one, and he was able to ride up and down the hills holding his camera and taking pictures!

We got started early and drove to Jardin and picked-up our horses and our guide. The three of us rode for a beautiful, scenic and serene ride til we came to the lovely water fall. After that, we rode up a small mountain to a chalet that actually was a private coffee plantation. We met the caretaker and his wife and were given delicious lemonade. After relaxing a bit and enjoying the beautiful view, we were taken to the coffee plants, shown how to pick the beans, take them to another area where they dry them in the sun, and then where they process the beans all the way through until the caretaker actually puts them on the stove in a pan turning all the time as they roast. After 15 minutes the beans are air dried and then ground. Right in front of us, they make fresh coffee. It was a truly special occasion and an amazing day as we rode our horses back to the stalls. What an incredible, once-in-a lifetime experience and Alex, our tour guide, made it all possible. BRAVO!!!!!
