Bukit Melawati
Bukit Melawati, also known as Melawati Hill, is a historical hill and popular tourist destination in Kuala Selangor, Malaysia. It was originally a fortress built by Sultan Ibrahim of Selangor in the late 18th century to protect against potential attacks. Today, visitors can explore remnants of the fortress, visit a lighthouse offering panoramic views of the Malacca Strait, and encounter resident silvered leaf monkeys and friendly resident silvered leaf monkeys.

3.00Unfortunately because of the torrential rain and wind we were not able to do the boat trip. What made up for the disappointment of not seeing the fireflies was a delicious meal at the Seafood restaurant and our wonderful tour guide Yati who took good care of us.
ok Tour, but some parts were underwhelming. The monkeys were a big hit!

4.00we enjoyed the tour overall, especially the monkey encounter. The monkeys are very interactive and will in fact jump on you. Definitely unexpected, but wonderful. We really enjoyed it, however, I can imagine that not everyone would love this part. The dinner in the seafood restaurant was good but not anmazing, and we had an option of ordering from the menu if we had dietary restriction/preferences. The boat ride was interesting, very fast moving in the dark, seemingly that’s how things are done there, but definitely unusual for us. there were probably 20 to 30 people on the boat, but plenty of room for everyone to spread out, it did not feel too crowded. The fireflies were somewhat underwhelming. The bioluminescent plankton was also underwhelming. I can imagine that on a day with clear skies and perfect conditions it may look spectacular, however, we only saw a bit of plankton when we moved it with the nets that were provided. It was cool, but not a fascinating site. We were disappointed that the driver of the boat did not speak to the passengers at all and provided no explanation. Our main guide and driver on land, however, was wonderful and had a lot of information to share.

5.001. Kumaran, our driver was great.😊 He showed us everything and was very polite. 2. The temple was nice to see with explanation from our driver, quite an expert. 3. The best thing we’re the monkeys of the lighthouse. Cute and cheeky! 3. The firefly’s were ok. The best thing was the boattrip to and from there. 4. The tears were not really good to see… perhaps it was not the best time. All in all we had a good trip with the best driver ever. Thank you Kumaran it was a pleasure to us!

Not as Private as Expected, But Still a Memorable Experience

4.00We booked what was advertised as a “private” fireflies tour with blue tears and seafood dinner, but it turned out to be a shared boat with about 50 other people. That was a bit disappointing, as we were hoping for a more intimate experience. Despite that, the tour was still enjoyable overall. Our driver was fantastic—knowledgeable, friendly, and really went the extra mile. When the road to the fort was unexpectedly closed and we didn’t have time to wait for the tram, he found a way for me to still feed the monkeys, which was something I really wanted to do. That personal touch made a big difference in the day. The seafood dinner was delicious, the fireflies were magical, and seeing the blue tears was a unique experience, even if the boat felt a bit crowded. Just be aware that “private” may not mean what you think. Still, a worthwhile outing with some great moments.

5.00Highly recommended this tour, the food was amazing, the driver was kind and helpful, the boat trip was special and I enjoyed feeding the monkeys, and the temple was beautiful. I would recommend taking cash with you for feeding the monkeys and stopping off at stalls on the way.
