Freddy is a great guide and knows the property well. We saw five sloths, a stick bird, a couple of monkeys and several javelina. We learned a lot about the history of the area and enjoyed our tour.

A wonderful reserve. Small and intimate but lots of birds and mammals. We did an afternoon walk where we saw lots with our excellent guide . Then we did a morning walk v bird walk and it was fabulous- we saw so much including toucans , caymans and sloths alongside all the birdlife.

Freddy is incredibly knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of the Baru reserve. He knows about the ecosystem and each of the animals that inhabit it. It was well worth the cost for the private tour as we saw many more animals than the folks who did not book a tour!

We wanted to see quite difficult birds - antbirds, antshrikes, manakins. We met our guide Pedro to start walking at 6 a.m.. He was amazing in his abilities to hear birds and to mimic their calls. He was able to show us a good selection of our targets. Altogether a really well worthwhile experience.

My wife and I had a fantastic early-morning tour at Hacienda Barú with Freddy, who is incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about the reserve and its wildlife. He guided us through beautiful trails while sharing the history and ecology of the property, and we were able to observe a wide variety of birds and other wildlife along the way. It was a peaceful, informative, and memorable experience — highly recommend!

Freddy was absolutely awesome!! You can tell he’s super passionate and knowledgeable about what he does. He pointed out animals to us that we never would have spotted on our own. We saw sloths, monkeys, toucans, pigs, iguanas, agoutis, beautiful butterflies, leaf cutter ants and more!! He brought a viewing scope so we could get an even better look at the wildlife and some AWESOME pictures and videos!!

Freddy is THE BEST! We have done this tour five or six times and it never disappoints! Sloths, birds, bats, pigs, monkeys you will see them all. His knowledge of leaf cutter ants is impressive. Just learning about them is worth the trip. The walk is easy too so it is friendly for most ages. If you are considering a jungle tour this is the one! A big plus is that you are usually the only people in the jungle. Unlike Manuel Antonio which is usually packed.

Awesome experience! Eric, our tour guide, is very passionate about nature and his work. He is excellent at spotting the wildlife and telling you all about it. He is fantastic at taking photos through the spotting scope so that you have memories that will last a lifetime. I really recommend paying the extra money for the walking tour. It is worth it! We would’ve never seen the wildlife we did that we walked through on our own.

What an awesome morning at Hacienda with Freddy! Friendly, fun, professional, and with a passionate knowledge for the wildlife at Hacienda Baru. We kicked off with breakfast at a local soda - excellent coffee and Huevos Rancheros - and then set off for the reserve. Freddy helped us take amazing photos and video of monkeys, toucan, sloths, coati, agouti, peccaries plus wonderful birds and leaf cutter ants. Did I mention the lucky sighting of a Jaguarundi? After a tropical batida, and a drive back to our hotel, we had experienced the natural beauty and welcoming character of Costa Rica and its people. Sam and Gavin

Our guide Freddy was very knowledgeable and attentive. His observations and explanations were outstanding. He let us go at our own pace which is why we opted for a private tour. We saw an agouti family, various birds, pigs, leaf cutter ants. and three toed sloths
