After a country breakfast, hikers leave the first campsite and follow the ancient trail along the Lluyuchayoc River. This is the hardest day of the trek, so it’s important to hike slowly. After 1–2 hours, you’ll reach Tres Piedras and cross the Wayruro Bridge, stopping for a short rest and toilet break. The trail then climbs steeply for 3–4 hours through cloud forest with views of Lluyucha Pampa (3,680 m). The ascent ends at Abra Warmiwañusca, or Dead Woman’s Pass (4,200 m), the highest point of the trail. The final stretch is tough, especially for those not well acclimatized. After time to rest, celebrate, and enjoy the views, you’ll begin the descent to the Paqaymayu Valley (3,600 m), where you’ll camp for the night surrounded by mountain scenery.

After a guided visit, continue to the second pass and descend to Sayaqmarca, known as the “Inaccessible Town,” passing two small lagoons along the way. The trail winds through lush jungle, orchids, and bromeliads, passing an Inca tunnel and following a ridge to Puyupatamarca ("Town in the Clouds"), a sacred site with fountains, terraces, and stunning views of Salcantay, Veronica, and Pumasillo. Stop for lunch here before descending to Wiñay Wayna, a beautiful Inca site near Machu Picchu with terraces, fountains, and ceremonial structures. This is my second visit to Peru where I and seven of my friends have just returned to Sao Paolo after a wonderful experience with this company in Peru. From the beginning we contacted each other, they without hesitation helped us plan this unforgettable trip for weeks. As soon as we arrived in Peru, everything was perfectly organized and planned from start to finish. The guides were very professional and knowledgeable, and were always attentive to all our needs even with some minor last minute changes. Throughout our trip Cusco, tour to the Sacred Valley, Moray, 4-Day / 3-Night Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, 7-Color Mountain and 3-Day trip to Titicaca in Puno, we had a great time. Transportation was quite spacious and with our driver very responsible and attentive. The camping equipment during the Inca Trail were relatively new and very comfortable, and not to mention the food , was top quality and all nutritious, the cook was super professional, even prepared us a thank you cake on the last day. The porters were very helpful people who carried all the equipment without problems, and always smiled at all times despite the heavy work. The organization and all the logistics on the part of the company was simply impeccable. The guides were phenomenal, always attentive and very knowledgeable about Inca history and culture. This was my second time traveling with this company, and this time I decided to take my friends on the Inca Trail. We are all fascinated and very grateful for this experience of a lifetime, and will definitely recommend it to all our friends and family who want to visit Peru

South Adventure Peru Tours gave us the trip of a lifetime! Everything was so well organized, and the whole team – guide, driver, cook, and porters – treated us like family. The highlight was when they surprised us with a birthday cake on the Inca Trail to celebrate two 50th birthdays – up in the mountains! Ruben and Tatiana, the owners, made sure every detail was perfectly taken care for our day trips in Cuzco, Sacred Valley, Lares Hot Springs, and then the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu was perfectly planned. Highly recommend them if you want an unforgettable and truly cared-for experience in Peru.

Last week, we returned from our Peru and Machu Picchu trip. From the airport pickup in Cusco to booking the hotels, dining, and arranging our adventure trip to the Inca Trail, all the logistics were handled by the South Adventure Peru Tours team. They treated us like family — their friendly touch, advice, and careful planning gave us a wonderful experience in Peru. Visiting Lares Hot Springs, exploring local markets and archaeological sites, and being picked up from the Machu Picchu train and dropped off at the airport — everything was handled perfectly. Our heartfelt thanks to Ruben and his wife. I highly recommend South Adventure Peru Tours to everyone, and I will definitely use their services again in the future. Best regards, Venkat

We finally conquered Machu Pichu but it would not have been possible without the South Adventure Peru Tours. We contacted Reuben when we initially started planning for the trip, answering all our questions, booking the trip and giving us excellent local recommendations on which hotels to book. Before the tour started, he setup a meeting with the guide and answered our numerous questions and we had a lot. The guide Rosalio and the entire team of porters, cooks were excellent. Laughing, helping and encouraging us to survive the trail. The food was excellent and getting a freshly made cake on the trail was a surprise. Highly recommend South Adventure Tour company.

We had an unforgettable trip with South Adventure Peru Tours – everything was perfectly organized from start to finish. From exploring Cusco to trekking the Inca Trail, the service was exceptional throughout. Our private vehicle was comfortable and reliable, and our entire team – tour guide, driver, cook, and porters – went above and beyond to make our journey special. They were not only professional and knowledgeable, but also incredibly warm and attentive. A real highlight was on the third night of the Inca Trail when the team surprised us with a birthday cake to celebrate two 50th birthdays in our group – at high altitude, no less! It was such a thoughtful and memorable touch that we’ll never forget. Special thanks to the owner, Ruben, who clearly puts his heart into making sure every guest has a personalized and meaningful experience. He was involved every step of the way and truly went above and beyond to make our trip amazing. We highly recommend South Adventure Peru Tours to anyone looking for a more intimate, well-cared-for experience in Peru.
