  • Heartfelt Kimono Memories with Tea

My daughters and I visited Japan in January 2026, and one of our biggest wishes was to walk the streets in kimono and enjoy all the touristy experiences. Unfortunately, it was very cold (it had snowed the night before and it was icy cold) so wandering outside in kimono wasn’t practical. Still, we didn’t want to miss out on the kimono experience. After reviewing several options, we decided to book with Noriko—and we are so glad we did. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but her hospitality, professionalism, and heartfelt introduction to Japanese culture far exceeded our expectations. This was so much more than simply being dressed in a kimono. This is an experience you will not get with the Kimono shop rentals by the temples. Noriko taught us about the many layers of traditional kimono dressing and their cultural importance, explaining how kimono are still deeply appreciated today at celebrations and special occasions—not just something from the 1900s. This was the real deal. Once she dressed us, we truly felt like we had stepped out of a time capsule. Noriko was incredibly accommodating and is one of the loveliest people we met during our travels. The experience felt personal, meaningful, and unforgettable. I loved how traditional and unique it was, and I genuinely feel as though we now have a friend in Tokyo. She also introduced us to matcha—something I had never enjoyed in the U.S.—but hers was absolutely delicious. More importantly, she taught us that the tea ceremony is about much more than drinking tea. It is spiritual, intentional, and rooted in gratitude. She guided us through making the tea ourselves and served wonderful Japanese delicacies alongside it. Because it was a national holiday, we even had the chance to meet her family, which made the experience feel even more special. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and loved. Booking this experience on our very first full day in Tokyo was truly a blessing. Noriko will never feel like “just a tour” to us—we found a lifelong friend who will always hold a special place in our hearts. Ps. Oh I want to add - Because we had booked another tour too close, Noriko was worried we may be late or miss it. We did not - as everything was perfectly executed but her heart and concern just says it all. In the chaos of leaving to get the uber quickly, I took the wrong / blank SDS card. Noriko delivered ours to our hotel the following day. Now, who would do that? A beautiful soul that’s who who made our intro to Japan unforgettable. Thank you so much for the tour.

  • Beautiful kimono and photos while learning about Japanese culture

This was an amazing experience! Noriko-san was so accommodating and welcoming showing us into her lovely traditional home! She helped tell us about Japanese culture and was very willing to answer any questions we had. For my birthday she served me a special dish and she provided tea upon entry. As a special birthday treat she also played me a special celebration song in a traditional instrument. We then got to choose every element of our kimono from the “robe” piece, to the sash and cord etc. she explained the history behind each item, provided hair accessories, helped us dress then took sooooo many pictures of us and was willing to go as long as needed until we got some we liked. She even helped us with posing. Then we sat down for a quaint tea ceremony at her kitchen table where she taught us tea ceremony etiquette while we drank matcha, picked a plate and had wagashi (Japanese sweets). We felt so regal and catered to. Thanks so much!

My experience with the kimono and tea ceremony was, without a doubt, the highlight of my entire trip to Japan. From the moment I arrived, every aspect of the experience was thoughtfully curated, making it not just a simple photoshoot but a truly immersive cultural journey. The process of wearing a traditional kimono was an experience in itself. The intricate details, the care taken in dressing, and the significance behind each step were beautifully explained, allowing me to appreciate the tradition even more. The tea ceremony that followed was equally mesmerizing every movement, every gesture had a deeper meaning, and the way it was explained made me feel connected to Japan’s rich heritage. What made this experience truly exceptional was Noriko, our host. Her warmth, knowledge, and passion made the entire experience feel like a gathering with close family rather than a formal event. She patiently guided us through the process, making sure we understood the history and cultural significance behind every aspect. I cannot recommend this experience enough. If you’re visiting Japan, this is an absolute must-do.

Noriko is a great person, friendly and funny. She has a lot of knowlegde about Japanese history and loves to share that. She’s an excellent kimono-sensei (teacher), has a great selection of very precious kimonos, also in big sizes. There are many different kimono’s and obi’s to choose from. While Noriko is dressing you in kimono she tells you a lot about the history about wearing kimono. When you’re ready she makes beautiful pictures in her traditional Japanese apartment. Noriko is a SUPER host, I really recommend this experience.
