What To Expect

Guests are met by their qualified cycling and wine guide at their accommodation in Cape Town at 8am. Wellington is a beautiful hidden valley which is situated between Cape Town and the statuesque Hawequas mountain range. The area is well-known for producing some of the best Pinotage of South Africa due to its dry and favorable climate. We start the 7km long ride from an old historic wine farm and ride along a very scenic and quiet farm road, a mix of well-maintained gravel and some paved sections in between. The Hawequas Mountain stands majestically to the eastern side of the valley and presents an impressive backdrop to the many vineyards. One of the highlights of this tour is a private cellar tour at a very old and historic wine farm with a personal wine tasting included. The ultimate Winelands experience is to relax with a glass of Pinotage and enjoy a picnic lunch with mountain views. Mountain bikers can go for a ride at Welvanpas farm which offers routes for every fitness level and provides the opportunity to cycle in between beautiful vineyards. Alternatively, take a leisurely stroll along the shady river walk and enjoy the calm surroundings. On the way back to Cape Town you have the option of doing another wine or Brandy tasting in Paarl (own expense).

I had two days with Bevan, taking me along two very technical trails in the Cape. A great experience and a lot of fun with Bevan. I’ll be back soon! And highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys mountain biking.

I had a fantastic half day mountain ride in the Botterlary Hills with Bevan. Beautiful views to the mountains behind Stellenbosch and across to False Bay. Bevan got the level just right for me and my slightly dodgy back, so not very technical, but I still had to do some work up and down the switchbacks :) We had a good laugh too, Bevan is a proper expert in all aspects of mountain biking, but carries it lightly, offers advice gently and quietly attentive - you barely notice he's looking out for you. His love of the ride is contagious and I found myself doing things I wouldn't have done on my own (but no wheelies yet :D ). Also the office team (thank you!) are responsive, lovely and sort everything out effortlessly. Loved it, and will be a staple for every future visit to Cape Town.

We really enjoyed this wine tour! Bevan, our guide, was very interesting (he has in-depth knowledge of wines and vineyards), forward-looking (he had provided us with electric bikes to facilitate our visit and the necessary water), and above all, very friendly. I recommend !

We contacted AWOL asking for an enduro oriented experience near Cape Town and they nailded it! Our guide Oliver picked us at our appartment and we picked some really specialized turbo levos sl at a bike shop and went to Jonkershoek. The trails there offer a lot of different options; flowy and rocky ones are very enjoyable regardless of the level. After Jonkershoek we had lunch at a very nice restaurant for a very decent price and afterwards we headed to Banhoek and it was exellent, it can hardly get better. Worth mentioning Oliver is more than just an mtb guide, talking with him is a pleasure. He explained us some history about the region and the country and he also gave us some great recommendations. Couldn’t have gone better

I had a truly fabulous time mountain biking with my guide Bevan in the Stellenbosch area. It truly was the highlight of my 10-day trip to Cape Town (though kayaking among the penguins and hiking Table Mountain were also pretty cool!). Everything about the experience was top notch: AWOL was responsive and flexible to design a trip for me on a quick timeline; they were attentive to my interests and needs; they provided just the right amount of information to allow me to work with them to design a great day of biking; the quality of the trails, terrain, etc. were spot on; the conversation was amazing -- I learned a ton that day about all sorts of topics related to South African history and culture. I can't say enough positive things. I would use AWOL again in a second!

We had an amazing day with Andy. This one homed and in the morning on time and showed and super flowy MTB trails. Not only did we go on fantadic tours, Andy told us a lot more about Sout Africa and culture. With his humor and the winetasting we did after the mountain bike tour, he definitely made our holiday unforgettable! Thanks to Andy & Sally:)
Cycling through the Franschoek Countryside

We had a blast riding all over the Franschoek backroads with our amazing guide Peter K. Not only was the scenery absolutely stunning (surrounded by burgeoning vineyards) but the wine stops were a refreshing pit stop, gearing us up for our next ride. We loved it, recommend it to others, and can’t wait to do it again on our next visit.

Fantastic guides Sally and Bevan which took as to extraordinary MTB single trails in the wind lands !! Very knowledgeable to find also off the beaten tracks adjusting always to our needs! We had a lot of fun and very nice company!
