What To Expect

Trinity College Dublin

Visting the campus. If you want to visit the Old Library and Book of Kells, please book our 5hr tour '(Nearly!) All of Dublin in 5 hours'. Access to the campus is limited to groups of 8 or fewer unless tickets for the Old Library are purchased in advance (these are Trinity's rules). Started in 1592 as a university only for Protestants, Trinity remained an institution of resentment for Ireland's Catholic majority up until at least 1970. Throughout the centuries, this fine university nurtured such aspiring students as Oscar Wilde, Jonathan Swift, Bram Stoker and Samuel Beckett, the greatest playwright of the 20th century.

John was a great tour guide. His knowledge, timing and flexibility went above and beyond. We had special requests to stop for a coffee and bathroom and he found a place quickly. Excellent responses to questions and inquiries. Some information was a little too detailed but John had insightful information to share.

  • A wonderful walk through Dublin's history

Our guide for this tour was a fantastic host. We love learning about the history of places we visit and this walk about town did not disappoint. Despite the weather being quite soggy, we had a wonderful time and got to see much more than I expected over the course of the morning and afternoon. Much of what we learned about was focused on the events that happened in Dublin specifically, in particular the struggles for independence and the complexity of the politics of that time. We also got a proper introduction to Irish pubs, including why they are laid out the way they are and some lesser-known features such as the "snugs". Our guide also gave us an extensive list of recommended places to see beyond the tour, including museums, libraries, restaurants, and music venues. To escape the rain for a bit our guide took us through the National Gallery of Ireland, leading us through all of the highlights and explaining in detail the distinguishing features of many different works of art in there. Highly recommended!

Great time was had by all (three couples). We got to see all the key sights and then topped it off by having lunch with our guide (Kevin) at local restaurant located in an old bank building. We also had a sunny day and who could ask for more.

Our guide, Kevin, was wonderful. He was informative without being overwhelming. His English (with a lovely Irish accent) was perfect. We had a lovely day. Learned things that we would have never discovered on our own. He was polite and very considerate of our time. A super guide.

Eamon gave us a wonderful walking tour of Dublin. He’s got an unmatched knowledge of Irish history and reminds you of your favorite college professor—entertaining and never boring. Also, he had a great knack for weaving in the classic tourist hot spots with off the radar places a tourist wouldn’t know existed. Highly recommend!

Kevin was our Tour Guide for a private walking tour of Dublin. He was prompt on arrival, extremely informative throughout the tour, and even spent an hour after the tour offering helpful suggestions for our following days in other parts of Ireland. We learned a LOT! We also appreciated becoming comfortable with the cities geography, which made our next couple days enjoyable as we were able to comfortably get around without getting lost!
