Shurijo Castle
Example Tour: Travel back to the Ryukyu Kingdom. Be mesmerized by the stunning Red Lacquered gates and curved stone walls. This castle is unique from the Traditional mainland Japan castles. Originally constructed in the late 1300s, the castle was built using rare Okinawan hardwoods, showcasing the craftsmanship and cultural pride of the era. For over 450 years, Shuri Castle served as the political, diplomatic, and cultural center of the Ryukyu Kingdom, hosting royal ceremonies, foreign envoys, and governance that shaped Okinawa’s unique identity. Despite being destroyed multiple times by war and fire, the castle has been restored over five times, with each reconstruction honoring its original design. Restoration efforts have carefully preserved traditional tools, techniques, and materials, allowing visitors to experience the castle as it once stood.
Senagajima Island
Example Tour: Enjoy a relaxing seaside break at Senaga Island, famous for its scenic ocean views and Umikaji Terrace, a beautiful shopping and dining area. Savor a delicious Okinawan lunch with a budget of ¥3,000 per person at a restaurant with ocean views. Take a leisurely stroll along the seaside boardwalk, with airplanes flying low overhead, offering a unique view. Visit hot spring foot baths with a scenic ocean backdrop for a quick refresh.

Lyrics was so kind and best experience even if we only have limited time to explore naha, we go to the famous Shuri Castle and we explore the busy street of kokusaidori and makishi market. It was fun

Wow, what a day! Let me backtrack a little bit. We booked a cruise with a stop in Okinawa. There were four of us (wife, parents and me). Rather than doing the ship’s shore excursions, I decided to look into a private tour. The Private Okinawa Tour was the choice I made. It was much less than the ship’s excursions and it was so much better than anything we have ever received on a port excursion through a cruise line. Debi was our guide for the day, and she is beyond exceptional!! Once the trip was booked, Debi reached out to me to assist in putting the tour together. There was lots of communication back-and-forth to put the perfect day together. Arrangements were made with the itinerary, including what type of food we would prefer for lunch, with different restaurant options that fit our tastes. We arrived at port and Debi was waiting for us as soon as we were off the ship (super easy). There was a fair amount of driving required to get to the different places we wanted to visit. It was more of a “quality of stops” with what we wanted to see, rather than the “quantity of stops” we wanted to see. Debi is from Okinawa, and she has immense passion for her hometown. She speaks wonderful English, and communication with her is effortless. With the long drive, we had lots of time for some wonderful conversations. Ultimately, the stops we made were almost meaningless with what we got out of the tour. We could have spent the day driving around with Debi without any stops, and it would have been well worth the time and cost for the tour. She really is a remarkable person. We visited the Okinawa Aquarium (a Whale Shark and Manta Rays in the aquarium), and I would highly recommend it. I could have spent hours just watching their large aquarium (but there is so much more there to see). Debi kept us on schedule for our lunch reservation at a wonderful restaurant. We cooked our own food at our table. It was a very unique and wonderful experience. We then headed to the Southeast Botanical Gardens. This again was a bit of a drive, which led to some more wonderful conversations with Debi. The Botanical Gardens were very nice. In addition to the Gardens, they have animals in petting areas, and a spectacular bug/reptile/spider section. It really was amazing. We had a big rainstorm hit us, so we did spend a fair amount of time in the bug/reptile/spider section since it was indoors. We started heading back to the ship, stopping for a little shopping along the way, and made it back before sailing away. It sounds like such an average day, but that does not begin to describe it. It was one of those times where random people are placed in each other’s lives for a purpose. Debi will forever be a part of our lives (and family) going forward. We had a 15-day vacation to Japan and Taiwan, and it was a spectacular time, but this day with Debi was amazing, and it is by far the highlight of our trip!! Just recommending Debi, and this company, does not seem like enough. Debi’s passion for Okinawa, and her desire to share her passion, is incredible. Do yourself a favor, if you have a free day in Okinawa and are able to spend some time touring this incredible island, reach out and spend the day touring it with Debi. It might just be the highlight of your trip too. Thanks again Debi!!
