This activity is unique because it offers a deep dive into the world of traditional Armenian clothing, or taraz, unveiling its rich symbolism and uses. You’ll immerse yourself in history as you don these elegant garments within our historic studio, expertly captured by a professional photographer. Following this, you’ll savor a warm cup of tea or coffee with your hosts, and hand-painting your own stylized Armenian letter using traditional calligraphy techniques. You’ll receive your professional photos (5 edited, 5 unedited) a week after your experience.

What To Expect

Join us in our historic 19th century studio in the heart of Gyumri, where you’ll learn about traditional Armenian costumes, called taraz, and have a professional photo shoot while wearing these beautiful pieces of art. You’ll have the opportunity to see and get to know the over 20 different traditional costumes that we have recreated from different regions of historic Armenia. We’ll tell you everything about the different costumes of Armenia before you choose which one you want to wear for your photoshoot, along with different accessories. After the photoshoot with our professional photographer, which lasts about 45 minutes, we’ll sit down to enjoy local teas and sweets together. Finally to end your experience, you’ll have the opportunity to hand paint your own Armenian letter in the shape of a stylized bird. Trchnagir is a unique form of Armenian calligraphy featuring birds and other animals, plants, and people in the shape of letters. You’ll select your desired letter and paint it on chiffon or silk while listening to traditional Armenian music. You’ll take your letter home with you, and will receive a total of 10 photos, 5 edited and 5 unedited, within one week’s time.

Traveled to Armenia with the whole family because I had spent a night in Gyumri and stumbled across the photography studio online. Need to book a good time in advance, the boss speaks good English, plus WhatsApp will communicate the requirements and different offers in detail. Adults and children have clothes, will help choose clothes and accessories, will also introduce the background and source of clothing, is a very good boss! The photos are sent to the USB download link within 1 week of being taken. If you are in the country, you need to use a VPN to download them.

This photo session was so much more than just taking pictures—it was a cultural experience. We were welcomed like family, served tea and snacks, and introduced to the rich Armenian traditions of Gyumri (and other regions of Armenia). The hosts were warm, kind, and made everything feel natural and comfortable. Trying on the stunning traditional Taraz costumes was a highlight, and with their guidance, we felt truly beautiful. The photo shoot itself was thoughtful, detailed, and full of care. This is an absolute must for anyone visiting Gyumri—an authentic way to connect with Armenian culture and its incredibly hospitable people. Highly recommended, this place is a must see when you come to Gyumri. This place is also located right in the center of the city across from many other popular attractions, so it can easily fit into your itinerary
