Afterward, you will visit the Fortress of Klis, a fort with the best view of Split and the surrounding areas. With a history of more than 2000 years, it started as an Illyrian tribe called Dalmatae that used it as a stronghold before it was occupied by the Romans. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the site became a seat for Croatian kings. The famous series Game Of Thrones was filmed there, so if you are a fan, this is a must!

5.00We had a great time touring Klis Fortress and the ruins of Salona with our guide, who was friendly and very knowledgeable. The fortress was impressive, with a rich history and beautiful views of Split. We were pleasantly surprised with the ruins in Salona which showcased some interesting parts of Roman history in the area and will hopefully continue to be discovered!

5.00Antonia was wonderful—smart, funny, engaging, thoughtful, and well versed in her material. She was able to discuss many of the issues much more deeply than the standard guide patter. The logistics of the trip—from the hotel pick up to drop off—were flawless. Our tour was on her namesake saint’s day and she gave us some fascinating insights into differences between village life and life in Split.
