What To Expect
Wether you have never been on a board before or you are looking to take your current skills to the next level, our surf coaches are here for you. Beginner lessons start on land, covering the basics of water safety and board management. Afterwards, head to the waves to learn paddling, body position, reading the waves and popping up. For intermediate surfers who would like to work on gaining speed, better positioning, wave selection, turns and more, let one of our expert coaches accompany you out to the lineup and receive instant feedback and tips.

5.00I first discovered Tierra Costa while looking to book a surf lesson in Nosara—that’s actually how I came across them in the first place. Around that same time, my villa rental with another company unexpectedly fell through just one week before my trip. I reached out to Tierra Costa, explained my situation, and they were immediately able to help. I quickly realized they also offer villa rentals, and within no time, they found me the perfect place—beautiful, well-located, and at a very reasonable price. In addition, I mentioned that I was considering renting a car but found the prices quite expensive. They suggested using an ATV instead, explaining how easy it is to get around Nosara that way. When I heard the price, I couldn’t believe it—it was a fraction of what a car rental would cost. So I booked that as well. I ended up staying in Nosara for two weeks, taking an amazing surf lesson, staying in two different villas, and using an ATV the entire time. Everything was seamless from beginning to end. The service was incredible—friendly, responsive, and with a genuine hometown feel. I even lost my keys one night and had to text late for help, and they immediately jumped in to assist. All I can say is: if you’re going to Nosara, you absolutely have to connect with Tierra Costa for your accommodations and activities. They made my entire experience effortless and unforgettable.

5.00Steven was a very good teacher. I am not all that good but in one hour he got me to the point that I selected a wave by myself and got up and rode it in.

5.00I booked surf lessons with Tierra Costa while staying at a the amazing Karma Nosara house. Tierra Costa Works along with the team at Karma Nosara to make the experience easy & fun. Abraham was an awesome teacher. I have struggled with the basics of the pop-up and he really helped me to simplify it and not overthink it.

5.00Steven was our instructor. He provided us with basic information about when it’s best to surf based on tidal cycles and where to catch the waves. His instructional techniques on how to get up on the board were easy to remember. We were actually able to get up after a few tries. We would highly recommend Steven for any beginner wanted to know the basics of surfing.

He broke down every step so clearly that I was able to stand up and riding waves in under an hour. Helped build great habits and made it super easy to really enjoy surfing with no prior experience. 5.00Amazing day in the waves with Abraham and his team! 9 of us joined the lesson, including 6 teenagers and 3 adults. They paired us with 3 instructors. Playa Guiones is an amazing beach with a sandy bottom and great for beginners and experts alike. They also arranged a fishing trip for us where we caught so many fish that they cleaned for us to take home and eat!!

5.00It was a pleasure meeting both Ashley and Abraham. They are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. We booked a side by side tour with a stop at Waterfall and Sugar Cane. Abraham kept us safe the entire time. He encouraged my son to plunge into the waterfall springs. The scenery was spectacular. My brother in law also booked a surf lesson with Abraham who was patient and provided a thorough lesson. Definitely a highlight of our trip. We connected with Ashley through the Airbnb and we booked Steady as we go and she was extremely helpful in so many ways!!! So grateful to have met them both. Truly made our first trip to Costa Rica unforgettable!!!!
