In this stop you can enjoy a nice swim in the thermal waters also a nice walk through the botanical gardens.
Lagoa das Furnas
Here we will visit the Furnas Lake. We will witness the removal of the cozido (a local dish cooked in the caldeiras). We will make our way to the restaurante where the cozido will be served.

5.00Our full day private tour with Antonio was absolutely outstanding! We were able to dip our feet in the water, enjoy sweets and coffee with an incredible view, lunch in Furnas, a true Jeep experience through the mountains and visit the tea plantation. 5 stars!!!

From start to finish, Daniel made the experience truly special — tailoring the itinerary to our interests, accommodating all our requests, and going above and beyond to ensure we had an unforgettable day. Daniel is an exceptional guide: deeply knowledgeable about the island’s nature, history, and culture, and full of fascinating insights you’d never find in a guidebook. He added thoughtful touches throughout the day, including a visit to the local tea plantation, trying the hot & cold water in Furnas and arranging a delicious meal at a traditional restaurant — all perfectly aligned with what we were hoping for. Beyond his expertise, Daniel is simply a joy to spend time with — warm, engaging, and genuinely passionate about sharing the beauty of the Azores. We learned so much and felt completely immersed in the island’s spirit thanks to him. He even made us guess who the famous people are from the Azores by playing a quiz with us (I am not going to tell you, find it out from him)! If you're visiting São Miguel, don’t miss the chance to tour with Daniel. It was one of the highlights of our trip and we can’t recommend him highly enough!

5.00Despite the weather prohibiting the views we were hoping for, we had an enjoyable and informative day out with our guide, Pedro. It was a private tour and as we had visited Sete Cidades the day before, we gave Pedro free rein to show us the other highlights of the island he is so passionate about. We went to Lagoa de Fogo (twice, as Pedro thought it may be clearing on our return) and Furnas, with a few more ‘minor’ sights en route. We smelt the sulphur, drank the iron water, eat the cozido, and swam in the hot pools. The Land Rover excursion can take off-road routes (Sete Cidades) and also routes restricted by the national park type authorities (Lagoa de Fogo rim). Pedro was a great guide, determined to ensure we saw the island and had a good time.

From start to finish, our full-day tour of Furnas in the Azores was nothing short of magical—and it was made even more extraordinary thanks to our incredible guide, Rodrigo Borges. Rodrigo is the kind of guide every traveler dreams of—warm, knowledgeable, and truly passionate about sharing the culture, history, and natural beauty of the island. He tailored the day beautifully to our interests, striking the perfect balance between sightseeing, storytelling, and information. Furnas itself is a breathtaking destination—lush landscapes, geothermal wonders, and serene lake views. Highlights included the bubbling hot springs, the iconic cozido lunch cooked in volcanic soil, and a peaceful walk through the Terra Nostra gardens, however, we chose not to take a dip in the famous thermal pool. But what made the experience truly unforgettable was Rodrigo’s thoughtful narration and deep respect for the region. He made the day feel intimate and personal, and he was so well informed on everything from politics, to horticulture. If you’re considering a trip to the Azores, do not miss Furnas—and if you’re lucky enough to have Rodrigo as your guide, you’re in for a truly special experience.

5.00We did several private tours of Sao Miquel Azore Islands with Green Zone tours. They were always on time, friendly and accommodating. We especially enjoyed Marcio Furtado and Mario Bettencourt for guides. They were both very knowledgeable of history, geography, accommodating of our individual needs, everything! And so fun to be with all day!

5.00Amazing to see the hot springs and the beautiful flower garden and tea plantation. We took this 2nd tour because our tour guide, Eduardo was excellent for our other tour, the Sete Cidades tour. We only did the 4 hour tour but recommend taking the 8 hour as there is so much to see.
