Khajuraho Temples
Your tour will start with pick-up by your guide at your hotel lobby in Khajuraho at 09:00 AM and the private car along with chauffeur will remain at disposal for 8 hours to drive within the city limits of Khajuraho. On this private 8-hour tour you'll discover the Kamasutra temples of Khajuraho at your own pace. A UNESCO world heritage site in central India, Khajuraho is a famous tourist and archaeological site known for its sculptured temples dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu, and Jain patriarchs. Khajuraho was one of the capitals of the Chandela kings, who from the 9th to the 11th century CE developed a large realm, which at its height included almost all of what is now Madhya Pradesh state. Khajuraho extended over 21 sq.km and contained about 85 temples built by multiple rulers from about 950 to 1050 AD. In the late 11th century the Chandela, in a period of chaos and decline, it moved to hill forts elsewhere. Khajuraho retained its religious importance until the 14th century (Ibn Batuta was impressed by it) but was afterwards largely forgotten; its remoteness probably saved it from the desecration that Muslim conquerors generally inflicted on Hindu monuments. In 1838 a British army captain, TS Burt, employed by the Asiatic Society in Calcutta, came upon information that led him to the rediscovery of the complex of temples in the jungle in Khajuraho.
Khajuraho
Of the 85 original temples, most constructed of hard river sandstone, about 20 are still reasonably well preserved. Both internally and externally the temples are richly carved with excellent sculptures that are frequently sensual and, at times, sexually explicit. The temples are divided into three complexes-the western is the largest and best known, containing the magnificent Shaivite temple Kandariya Mahadev, a 31m high agglomeration of porches and turrets culminating in a spire. Modern Khajuraho is a small village, serving the tourist trade with hotels and an airport. Khajuraho's name derives from the prevalence of khajur, or date palms, in the area.

Khajuraho is a wonderful experience. The temples are so dramatic and bold , and at the same time so serene and divine. Our guide Mr Ghanshyam did a great job in showing us around and explaining everything eloquently. Mesmerising experience.

The guide was perfect but the amount charge was prohibitively excessive. The same tour costs max 7,000 rupees for which I was charged 16,600 rupees. This is three times the normal price without anything extra. I would highly advise potential tourirts to stay away from this group. Sampat Poddar Canada

Excellent Jan 2021 • Friends Khajuraho temples such a great creation of chandel dynasty these have marvellous arquitecture & higher level of engineering truly mind blowing. Stunning carvings always captivate to visitors temples are basically very famous in all over the world about the Kamasutra or Art of love which is beautifully carved but we can't say that there is nothing but kamasutra here when we visit temples then surly realize, this is only a part. we look here tremendous aspects of life which is vividly shown we get surprised by looking to art, iconography & very advance life style in ancient period of indian societies . If you really want to see / know & enjoy these temples guide must be with you. We were very lucky to have found Akhilesh as a tour guide in Khajuraho as it is his home town where he was having a break after spending previous months with large tour groups in Europe. He was our first guide in India and very impressive too. We were met at our hotel and started our tour with a session of meditation in a small temple. What seemed like 5 minutes was actually 40, it was a very spiritual experience for me but maybe less so for my husband. I guess you have to be a little receptive but we are working on it! Akhilesh is a very smart young man both in appearance and also with his knowledge, he is an approved guide by the Ministry of Tourism. He was very informative regarding the history of Khajuraho and also in touch enough to let us enjoy time to ourselves which gave us time to savour the atmosphere and beauty of the temples. Akhilesh was extremely courteous and a very well mannered young man with a good sense of humour. As we were spending 5 weeks touring India, Akhilesh offered his sincere help if we should need him at anytime at all during our stay. Little did he or we realise that we would in fact need him to sort out a transfer from Dehli to Agra when our flight was cancelled from Jabalpur which left us in a bit of a fix. Akhilesh arranged with us by phone for a driver to meet us in Dehli at short notice as we had missed our train connection to Agra,I cannot tell you how relieved we were. All this was done on trust as we had no internet connection and had to pay Akhilesh the next day. He truly is a genuinely kind spirited person and for that alone we were very privileged to have met him. We would recommend him without hesitation. Maybe one day we will meet on a different plane, two spirits aligned instead of one!
