Newlyn
One of the U.K.’s largest fishing ports-not in terms of size as it’s a relatively small port but in the tonnage of catch : Newlyn really punches above its weight in the story of fishing in Cornwall. We'll have the opportunity to drive right amongst the beam trawlers and learn of the fishing history of Cornwall and the industry involved to put food on people's tables. As with any location that we pass through on this 'Best of the West' Tour, there is so much history all around us and your Tour Guide will ensure that you have a true insight into the character of the area and a selection of fun facts and anecdotes to take home with you!
Penzance
Penzance - (Cornish : Pen Sans - the 'Holy headland') so much history to learn of and so little time! The arrival of the London bound train station in 1859 enabled the wealthy Victorians to visit the 'English Riviera' and Penzance is a fine old town steep in history with piratical tales and Maritime connections aplenty! Your guide will point out smuggling haunts, wonderful pieces of Georgian architecture with literary connections, as well as marvelling at the promenade (Cornwall's only one) and the art deco open air Lido-geothermally heated and the largest in the UK... While stepping out onto the promenade with one another, we will consider the art history of the area generally and the Newlyn School of art in particular before moving on with purpose!

5.00Conrad at Kernow tours is superior in every respect! Conrad is incredibly knowledgeable about Cornwall. His tour is not only a sightseeing trip, but an immersion into Cornwall’s history and culture. He also takes wonderful photos and promptly sends them to you as an added courtesy. He also tailors his tours toward your interests, providing a highly personalized experience. His van was spotless and comfy, his communications were clear and prompt, and he was right on time. Above all, Conrad is a very nice fellow, with a great sense of humor and a sincerely warm and engaging personality.

5.00Conrad is an excellent guide, picking us up very close to where we were staying and making us feel welcome from the start. As a local, he's extremely knowledgeable about the area and was happy to answer any and all questions we had. The tour was spontaneous and personalized at times, going to off-the-path places and spending the amounts of time in each location we wanted. Best of all, he took the time to snap photos of our group at many of the sites and send them to us soon after the tour ended. This tour was worth every penny (and pound) we spent!

5.00Conrad is a passionate about bringing Cornwall to life for visitors. It was indeed a varied trip. He shared unexpected bits of history hidden in unassuming local streets and neighborhood churches along side bringing local and personal flavour to the touristy "must-sees" of Cornwall. The Neolithic sites were especially moving. He was also cognizant of a group member's painful knee and offered regular snacks and bathroom breaks. Went at a comfortable pace but covered a lot in the day- managing to fit in our special request to see certain spots not in the official itinerary. He's also an excellted driver and has a comfortable new car. We are planning on seeing more of Cornwall with him when we come come back to this part of the world.
