What To Expect
St Gilgen
The ancient town of St. Gilgen is set in a stunning and breathtaking landscape on the shores of Lake Wolfgang. This spa town has several interesting buildings. One is the birthplace of the famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's mother, which has now been converted into a museum. The Zwölferhorn mountain overlooks the town and can be reached by cable car. Enjoy the ride up to 1,522 m above sea level to reach the top of the mountain and enjoy the views not only of St. Gilgen and Lake Wolfgang, but also across the lake area to Upper Austria and the Dachstein mountains near Hallstatt!
Hallstatt
Hallstatt is a charming town on the shores of a picturesque lake with the oldest salt mines in the world. Its unique location in the Salzkammergut makes it one of the most popular tourist destinations. Hallstatt is so popular in China, that they have even built an exact replica of the town. The town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers a wide range of activities. You can sail on the lake, walk along the streets of wooden houses built on wooden stilts, explore the ice cave, go down the salt slide or enjoy the view of the mountain peaks while hiking. The archaeological finds around Hallstatt are so significant that they have given their name to a period of the so-called Hallstatt culture. You can see them in the local museum. Just above Hallstatt you can visit the world's oldest salt mine with a skywalk for the perfect photo opportunity.

3.00St Gilgen and Halstatt are both beautiful locations. We arrived early in Saint Gilgen -about 9:00 AM and unfortunately, most of the businesses were closed. We did enjoy walking around and seeing the city and the view of the lake. Halstatt was picturesque as anticipated, we arrived as it began to snow. Our guide dropped us off and we spent several hours walking around the city. The vehicle was very comfortable, easily accommodating five adults and the scenery on the drive was beautiful. Our guide did not talk during the drive and at the drop off when I asked for recommendations and information on where attractions were located…she seemed unfamiliar with the cities and what would be open or available. So while this was advertised as a private tour with a local driver, it was primarily transportation from Salzburg to St. Gilgen and Halstatt. It cost just under $800, so taking a taxi or a bus may have been less expensive

5.00J was extremely courteous and considerate. We were a family with our parents and a toddler. He offered a step stool to help my mom (who has a back issue) to get inside the minivan, he was cognizant of the requirements of our toddler too. He was right on time and was always easily available and very kind throughout. He was also knowledgeable and gave us a good insight into the country and the cities. He is an excellent driver, needless to say, and the car too was in an immaculate condition. Our day tour was beyond comfortable, and I’m glad for J and that we booked this tour.

5.00Actual Guide was in accident (he was reported okay!) previous day. SO, the Boss & his wife picked us up instead! Was actually nice spending time with them as we visited St Gilgan & Hallstatt. We enjoyed a perfect weather day as bonus.
