Great way to do a levada walk with a small group of others and a guide. Alvaro our guide, was very entertaining and pointed out many interesting plants and birds along the way. The five hours passed all too quickly.

The hike was well organised, great guide, Alvaro was very professional and had great sense of humour. The levada was amazing, stunning views, great forest walk but also tunnels and narrow paths! Dare walk this path!

The actual hike is further on the ground than advertised, but as it is mostly flat we managed the distance with no trouble. The walk in itself is very varied, with constantly changing scenery and vistas, but our guide (Sofia?) made it even more interesting, pointing out flora which in England are classed as plants or bushes but which grow into trees on Madeira! Examples included varieties of heather and, most surprisingly, the dandelion! She also kept us aware of hazards, such as particularly narrow sections of the pathway and, in the tunnels, where there was a risk of damage to our heads. By the end of the trip we had gained a very understanding of the history of the levadas as well as the unique landscape of the island.

Throughly enjoyed our hike! Our driver and tour guide took excellent care of us throughout the trip. Beautiful views along the way with an amazing waterfall at the end of the hike.

A great hike with Madeira Free Spirit Walks, picked up on time (as usual) and once all the walkers were in the van were given a debrief of the day. Enroute to the hike Alvaro provided information about the island including the airport, building of the Levadas and Madeiran foods. Alvaro is a professional guide, he ensures all the walkers are comfortable with the pace, stops to ensure we have time to take great pics and explains what we are seeing…whether it be the birds, trees, winds. Stopped for a coffee at the end of the hike and had time to chat about the wonderful hike. Highly recommend this company and will be booking with them again.

Well what can I say, yet again we have walked with this company. Everything is 1st class, so much knowledge about the island, and our guide Alvero ( excuse the Spelling of) is a credit to the company, he's a great comedian also. Thanks to you all for yet again a great walk.

We went for a walk with Alvaro to Queimadas-Caldeirão verde with small group of 6 people. Alvaro was super nice and fun and we walked in a good pace. Every now and then we stopped to look at the views and birds and he talked to the birds (bis bis) and tried to take them to his walking stick (they almost flew there but only almost). He told us a lot about flora&fauna here in Madeira, things about levadas and Madeira all together and he also had lots of funny stories to tell. We laughed a lot with him =D. It was extra nice because we had a small group so everyone heard him all the time even when walking last. We had a wonderful walk with Alvaro in a lovely weather and we highly recommend this company to everyone :) Jenna & Petri

Completed the Caldeirao Verde waterfall walk today with Alvero as our guide. We were a small group of six people and were picked up & dropped off back at our hotel. Alvero was such a brilliant guide, very knowledgeable & informative about Madeira and about the flora & fauna on the walk. He was funny and also very kind and thoughtful and ensured we were safe. We were a lovely group and went at a good pace. Alvero stopped now & again to show us things of interest. He talks to the birds and quite a few flew over to greet us bis bis( gold/red crests I think & chaffinches) The walk was 13k there & back, closely hugging the mountainside on a level passing through 3 tunnels. Majority of the walk was in the shade through lush vegetation, including laurisilva, lily of the valley(Madeira style) ferns and passing waterfalls and a few great vistas along the way. Highly recommend the walk, it was beautiful and a massive THANK YOU to Alvaro- a pleasure to meet you!😊Anne & Peter X
