  • Three mates, eight days, absolutely worth it

My friend had already booked this trip and convinced me and another mate to join as a private group. I wasn't sure what to expect from Pakistan honestly, but I'm so glad I went. The logistics side of things was completely taken care of. Picked up from the airport, hotels sorted, all the driving handled for us. The Karakoram Highway drive is a full day and a half each way but it never felt boring because you're constantly staring out the window at ridiculous mountains. The actual trekking was my favourite part obviously. Day one up to Hapakun camp had my legs burning but the guide kept a good pace and we never felt rushed. Day two to base camp was shorter but steeper. When you get to the top and see Rakaposhi and the glacier filling your entire view, it hits different than any photo can show you. We sat up there for ages just taking it in. Small things that stood out: the team remembered our names from day one, the food was fresh and there was always plenty of it, and when one of us was struggling on a steep section our guide adjusted without making a fuss. It felt personal, not like a conveyor belt tour. Already talking about coming back for K2 base camp next year.

  • Rakaposhi blew our minds, the team made it easy

We booked this as a private trip for three of us and it was honestly one of the best decisions we've made. The whole thing was organised so well from the moment we landed in Islamabad. Our guide knew the mountains like the back of his hand and you could tell he genuinely loved being up there, not just going through the motions. The drive up the Karakoram Highway is long but the scenery is unreal, especially once you get past Gilgit and Rakaposhi starts appearing. The trek itself was tough in places, particularly the climb out of Minapin on day one, but totally manageable if you're reasonably fit. Waking up at base camp with that view of the glacier and the peak right above you is something I'll remember for a long time. Food on the trek was way better than expected. Proper cooked meals every evening, hot chai whenever we wanted it. The porters were brilliant and always had camp ready before we arrived. Karimabad was a lovely bonus too, we spent an afternoon wandering around Baltit Fort. If you're thinking about trekking in northern Pakistan and want something that doesn't require three weeks off work, this is the one. We had the flexibility of a private group and it felt like the trip was built around us rather than the other way round.
