Boyana church will NOT be visited on the following days: 1st of January (the tour starts at 11 AM on that day only); The day of Orthodox Easter; 24th and 25th December.
Dress Code: Rila Monastery is an active religious site. Shoulders and knees MUST be covered for both men and women.
Audio App Users: If you booked an Audio App/Self-guided option, the accompanying staff on the bus will only assist with logistics (meeting times, parking) and usually speak Spanish or Italian (not English). Please ensure your smartphone is fully charged and bring your own headphones and internet connection.
Cash: We recommend bringing local currency (Euro) for small purchases, snacks, or optional museum tickets, as card payments are not always accepted in the mountains.
What To Expect
Vasil Levski Monument
Duration: 15 minutes Description: Please arrive at the meeting point at least 15 minutes before your scheduled departure time to check in and board the coach. Settle into your comfortable seat and enjoy the scenic drive through the Bulgarian countryside. (Note: The bus may make a brief logistical stop at Boyana Church on the way to or from the mountain. If this occurs, entry to the church is strictly excluded for this tour).
Rila Monastery
Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes - 3 hours. Admission Ticket: Free (Main courtyard & church) Description: Journey deep into the Rila Mountains to explore Bulgaria's largest and most famous UNESCO landmark. If you selected a Live Guide option, you will receive a captivating walking tour explaining the monastery's 1,000-year history. Afterward, enjoy your Extended Free Time. You will have hours to independently explore the main church, visit the historical museums (optional, entry paid locally), take photos, or enjoy a relaxed, traditional lunch at a nearby restaurant without feeling rushed.

5.00Very nice visit with guides on top and clean and very recent coaches.The monastery of Rila is very beautiful and the surrounding nature invites to the walk.Be careful,be well put on and well covered because it is cold.

5.00The Rila Monastery is not to be missed in any itinerary for Bulgaria, and the combination with the Church at Boyana makes for a great day of UNESCO treasures. Lubo is a terrific guide and Atanas is a super driver. Both were professional and took great care of our group of 32. I recommend this trip to people of all ages interested in history who are visiting Sofia. Be sure to bring cash (Lev or Euros). Rila Monastery is free to the public, but to enter the Church at Boyana, it is 12 Bulgarian Lev. Also, the bakery at Rila, which was the only supplier of food open when we visited in November, required cash. It is a longer day, but not bad (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM).

2.00Our guide is excellent. Boyona and Rila are a must sites to visit. We are actually on our way back to Sofia from Rila while writing this. The only downside side (big downside) are the buses! 40 to 50km/hr on our way to Rila (some injection pump issues as they claimed) and a bus with ZERO air conditioner system on our way back to Sofia which is very aggravating! I felt bad for the tour guides being caught between a rock and a hard place. Traventuria should step up with their equipments.
