The Hāna Highway is a 64.4-mile long stretch of spectacular views of rainforest, waterfalls, beaches and coastline. On the east after Kalepa Bridge, the highway continues to Kīpahulu on the Piilani Highway. Although Hāna is only about 52 miles from Kahului, it takes about 2.5 hours to drive when no stops are made as the highway is very winding and narrow and passes over 59 bridges, 46 of which are only one lane wide. There are approximately 620 curves along Route 360 from just east of Kahului to Hāna, virtually all of it through lush, tropical rainforest. Many of the concrete and steel bridges date back to 1910 and all but one are still in use. This full-day trip to the Hana coast has the best scenic drive along the shorelines of Maui.

This was a great tour and I am glad we chose this one. Our driver and tour guide - Christy, was lovely, engaging and quite knowledgeable about the local sites and folklore. She was kind and thoughtful and represented the true maui culture. We had enough time for all the noted sites and scenic points. The van was clean, comfortable and air conditioned which made the entire experience very pleasant. I’ve always had great experience with viator tours and this was no exception. Thank you.

Our tour guide/driver Valerie was “first class” from our perspective. Her knowledge of the island and history is most likely second to none along with her personality and caring trait. Valerie’s experience enlightened us well. The many stops we made will be treasured for a life time.

Great trip. Malia was a lovely and friendly guide. We saw sea turtles a plenty and had a swim in the black sand beach. Breakfast and lunch were good too. It was good to be able to enjoy the drive without someone missing out because they had to concentrate on driving all the bends and narrow bridges. Malia was confident in her driving and it made for a stress free day.

We rented a car and thought about driving ourselves but decided to take the tour. It was totally worth it. The drive is extremely whiny and if you’re driving/navigating you’d have to focus on the road and miss so much. Plus Thomas was hilariously entertaining. He knows all the secret spots and stops, where the good restrooms are, where to get the best foods and how to best navigate around waterfalls and caves. At the end, we were so tired, we could relax and have someone drive us home.
