- Review from Viator
I am totally disappointed and frustrated with my experience with Viator "Roatan Fun Bus Group Sightseeing Island Tour". Upon arrival at the Roatan cruise port on 2/10/2025, there were no one to meet my wife and I as was stated in the instructions I received upon booking this tour. After waiting approximately 30 minutes, I was approached by one of the local vendors who assisted me in contacting my Viator tour contact, Louis Diaz @ 504-9872-9652, as stated in my instructions. I'm not aware of the conversation that took place because it was in Spanish, however, the vendor, Arnold Brooks, explained to me that he was told by the Viator contact that another couple arrived before I did and they left with the tour guide that I paid for. I then spoke to Mr. Diaz who gave me no explanation of what happened to my tour guide. I was only told that Mr. Brooks would fulfil my tour expectations and would be paid by Mr. Diaz. Mr. Brooks then escorted my wife and I to his vehicle, a 15+ year old SUV without air condition. At this point I had no other option but to follow through with our new tour guide. During the next 3 hours we were dropped off at Eldon's Supermarket while Mr. Brooks went to a phone repair shop to drop off his phone to get repaired. After the supermarket we went to the gas station to get $10 worth of gas. I was then told by Mr. Brooks that he was renting this vehicle to do his tour business. I started to have thoughts of insurance coverage in the event of an accident. We then drove around without air condition for the next hour when Mr. Brooks decided to stop by a family member's farm to show us different types of fruit trees, pigs, bee hives and a dog that recently delivered 10 puppies while walking through mud from an earlier rain shower. This part of our tour took 45 minutes because we had to wait on a family member to return from the banana plantation with bananas for Mr. Brooks to take home. We were than taken through areas of Roatan where the roads were washed out and needed repair thus resulted in traffic going no more than 10 mph. We were then taken to a restaurant that was operated by a friend of Mr. Brooks and was charged $25 each for a Jerk Chicken lunch. Mr. Brooks also required a lunch costing me $80 with tip for 3 lunches. After lunch we were taken back to the port where Mr. Brooks was given a $40 tip. Mr. Brooks seems to be a good guy but this was not what I paid for. Nothing that was described in the tour description was completed. DID NOT STOP AT PANORAMIC HILL FOR PHOTO AND LOCAL SHOPPING. DID NOT STOP AT CHOCOLATE FACTORY. DID NOT VISIT "THE RUSTY FISH". DID NOT VISIT RUM AND LOCAL CAKE COMPANY. DID NOT VISIT WEST END SIGHTSEEING. DID NOT STOP AT THE ROATAN COLOR SIGN FOR PHOTOS. I have traveled throughout the Caribbean, Europe, Asia and other countries and have used Viator before. This was my worst tour experience. I am requesting a full refund due to a wasted vacation day that resulted in additional expenses. Viator definitely did not uphold their end of the agreement especially sending me out with someone they were unaware of and no security clearance.
