Galleria Borghese

Cardinal Scipione Borghese commissioned both the Villa Borghese itself and many of the great works still on display in its gallery. Works by Bernini, Caravaggio and Titian remain in their original settings, as envisioned by the Cardinal, a fiercely determined collector. Strictly controlled entry to the Villa and Gallery can make booking difficult and complicated. On this fully-guided tour you’ll hear more about Cardinal Borghese’s quest to complete his collection, and the stories behind the artworks themselves, including Bernini’s ‘Apollo and Daphne’, Canova’s ‘Pauline Bonaparte’, Caravaggio’s ‘St. Jerome’ and Raphael’s ‘The Deposition’. Your guide will be an English-speaker and an expert on the collection, and audio headsets ensure you’ll hear every word they say.

Eddy was amazing. His passion for, and knowledge of, the artwork really added to this tour. Bernini’s sculptures are simply exceptional. The paintings and sculptures are well worth the time.

You could easily spend days in this amazing collection of one of a kind artwork. And not only do you get to see these exquisite masterpieces, you get to hear the important stories behind them. Tip: buy the book first in the gift shop so you have the best pictures of the artwork so that you can focus on the your guide’s explanation. You cannot possibly take a better picture than what they have in the book and it’s the explanation from the guide that is so valuable.

I attend in an English speaking tour. It was very difficult to understand the tour guide for two reasons I feel. The Accent from the tour guide, and also the quality of the audio earpiece. The entire tour was very muffled and very difficult to understand what was being said.

Our guide was very knowledgeable but the wireless set up was weak. I would have liked to have heard more about the collector and his vision and a little less time describing the art pieces
