What To Expect
Galleria Borghese
Cardinal Scipione Borghese commissioned both the Villa Borghese itself and many of the great works still on display in its gallery. Works by Bernini, Caravaggio and Titian remain in their original settings, as envisioned by the Cardinal, a fiercely determined collector. Strictly controlled entry to the Villa and Gallery can make booking difficult and complicated. On this fully-guided tour you’ll hear more about Cardinal Borghese’s quest to complete his collection, and the stories behind the artworks themselves, including Bernini’s ‘Apollo and Daphne’, Canova’s ‘Pauline Bonaparte’, Caravaggio’s ‘St. Jerome’ and Raphael’s ‘The Deposition’. Your guide will be an English-speaker and an expert on the collection, and audio headsets ensure you’ll hear every word they say.
Villa Borghese Gardens
Included in this tour is a visit to the Borghese Gardens: once the Cardinal’s private park, now a favorite spot for locals to relax among sculptures, plants and water features and get away from it all.

5.00The Borghese Gallery is a MUST see in Rome. I would definetly recommend a tour with a knowledgeable guide like we had. Salvador was amazing! As an art historian, he was able to give us intricate details about the pieces we were seeing by masters of their craft (Caravaggio, Bernini, etc.). He even pointed out the “unnecessary” additions Bernini added to his sculptures, such as a mole on Pluto’s back, to really cement the fact that he was a brilliant artist. You only have 2 hours in the gallery, but Salvador never hesitated to answer my many questions (while keeping our group moving along). You must see this gallery and you must see it with a guide hopefully as amazing as ours.

5.00Last September we went on this tour and had the most amazing art historian guide us through the museum. Of all my trip memories, I find myself looking through photos of the beautiful marble carvings in this museum. I can still hear the tour guide explaining the importance of each piece. I wish I could remember her name! If you love art history, I highly recommend this tour!

5.00Our tour of the Borghese Galley was incredible. Our guide was sure to give us a clear understanding of the narrative of the gallery and the art within it. Si loved how she continued to refer to the protagonists in the works. She brought the Borghese family to life and she made us all more knowledgeable about the artists whose work she could fit into the time we had together. The gallery was full of tours, but our guide was attentive to us and helped ensure we left remembering the wonders of the gallery and not how crowded it was. It was a great way to begin this day — better than I hoped it would be.
