Sharing this review in hopes for enhancement for future travlers. We were paired with tour guide Mircea. We arrived at the tour meeting point early in the morning before there was much of a crowd. Rather than heading inside while it was quiet, the tour guide spent a lengthy time talking to us about the colosseum from a far (near the meeting point) rather than walking us through and sharing the history while we viewed it. When we got into the colosseum, she walked us to all shaded areas away from the details and structures and once again explained some history, without showing us while we were standing it. My family called this a "standing tour." There were a few lines to see areas of the forum and she told us she will never wait long lines in the heat. That meant we didn't see those things that had lines. The tour guide had a rude undertone and it came out many times, with her word and body language. I was very disappointed in the quality received. So much so, I returned to the colosseum without a tour guide days later, did the audio tour, and had a better experience listening while walking the ruins. Sad to see that we paid so much money for this less than experience.

This was the best tour of my trip. Paolo was an incredible guide through these historical wonders. He is not only knowledgeable but dynamic in his delivery style, utilizing the space, us as actors, and objects as simple as a trashcan to help us envision what the Colosseum was like in its prime. He really brought the spaces alive in a way only an expert could do. If you get Paolo, prepare to be brought back in time and fully immersed in ancient Roman life and culture.

The only reason why I am giving this a 3 is because the heat was so terrible, it was hard to understand our guide (although she was VERY knowledgeable and sweet), and the order of the tour seemed backward. We did the colosseum last instead of first so by the time we got there we were exhausted from the heat and ready to go. But very grateful to our knowledge guide!
