• Had a horrible experience with Viator

  1 Star – Confirmed Booking, But Denied Entry Due to Viator's Failure Our experience was extremely disappointing. We had a confirmed booking for the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill tour, yet when we arrived, we were denied admission because Viator failed to communicate our scheduled booking to the local tour operator, Carpe Diem. We planned our day around this tour, arrived on time, and had all of our confirmation details, but none of that mattered because the local company had no record of our reservation. This left us stranded outside one of Rome's most iconic attractions with no tour and no immediate solution. This was not the fault of the local tour operator—it was a breakdown in communication by Viator. A confirmed booking should guarantee that the local provider has the correct information. Unfortunately, that did not happen. I cannot recommend booking through Viator based on this experience. A confirmation is meaningless if it isn't properly communicated to the tour provider.

  Our guide was very knowledgeable, and easily engaged our 2 children, aged 13 & 9. Pace of the tour is perfect. There is a lot of walking, in the heat so bring a hat! We did queue to get into the forum and then the colosseum but the guide was so compelling it didn’t feel like any time was wasted.

  Bring a water bottle, hat, and sunscreen. Felicity was an excellent, knowledgeable tour guide who is quite passionate about history and Rome! She spent the entire time telling us all sorts of information. I learned so much!

  We really enjoyed Angela. She was the best tour guide I've ever had. And I've done a lot of tours over the years. She was filled with immense knowledge, humor, and knew how to keep the pace and keep us engaged. My 10-year-old daughter had a blast and learned a lot and said she was a great guide. I highly recommend her if you can request her.

  The tour was quite lengthy and we were able to see quite a bit. However, the tour guide was very hard to understand. Because of the size of the group, my wife and I was always playing catch up to the group. The guide walked way to quickly and being senior citizens made it difficult for us. When we could hear and understand her, you could tell she was knowledgeable.

  For the second time, I purchased a Tour with Viator for the Colosseum and one day before the tour, after being confirmed, they canceled it. This has not happened just to me, but also to friends and relatives. This company is not trustworthy.

  The guide, Riga(?), was fantastic. She was very knowledgeable and easy to understand, taking just enough time at each area in a complex that could take a full day to fully explore. She adeptly handled all questions, even the redundant and nonsense ones. She was expert at avoiding the big crowds and kept us moving along at a good pace. The company, City Walkers, also gets five stars. We had a bit of a hiccup with this tour (on our side, not theirs) and they went above and beyond to accommodate us. Never have I seen such excellent customer service from a tour company. We did another tour with them as well and it too was wonderful.

  My husband and I loved our small group guided tour of the Colosseum, Forum and Palatine Hill in Rome in early May. We had six people total in our group and my husband and I needed to go a little more slowly because of achy knees, etc. We let our guide know and he was very thoughtful about walking more slowly, getting us a ride on the lift inside the Colosseum and navigating stairs safely. Arturo was our guide and has an amazing knowledge of Roman history over the past 3,000 years to share. Plus, he was a lot of fun! Our tour was about three hours long and being on a tour helped us advance to the front of the line in several cases. This tour is a must when in Rome. It gave us so much appreciation for Rome and its history. The only minor challenge was finding the Crown Tours office initially to meet up with our group. We gave ourselves plenty of time to get there. A young staff person, Beatrice, in the office was also most helpful and even suggested another tour, a golf cart tour of Rome, which we also signed up for. I would certainly do anther tour with Crown Tours again!
