On the same day as your exploration of Kigali’s history and cultural sites, a visit to the Richard Kandt Museum adds another layer to the experience. Located in his former residence on Nyarugenge Hill, this museum provides insight into Rwanda’s natural history, showcasing the evolution of landscapes, wildlife, and ecosystems. During the visit, travelers will learn about the interconnections between living beings and their environment , with exhibits detailing geological formations, biodiversity, and Rwanda’s rich flora and fauna. The museum also highlights the work of Richard Kandt, the first German colonial governor of Rwanda, offering historical perspectives on his role in early Kigali. This stop complements the Kigali Genocide Memorial and the Campaign Against Genocide Museum, creating a well-rounded journey through Rwanda’s past, from its geological origins to its modern resilience and development.

Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo
Visit the island with friends for a night. The island is in Lake Burera, about 30 mins drive from Musanze town and takes another 20 minutes by boat to the island. Ile De Cyuza is a wonder place to relax, in a very peaceful and quiet environment. It is located just at the base of Mount Muhabura. The view of the mountain is really wonderful. There are quite a number of tents and you will be provided with nice and cozy tents. They are just close to the lake and you will enjoy the sounds of frogs at night and the birds in the morning. You will be taken care of by the caretaker who will go out of their way to make sure that whatever you ask,is fulfilled right on time. If you ask them to get you a chicken, you will get it. Also there are full of vegetables grown around the island and you can be allowed to pluck some of the greens and Pili pili for your salad.
Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo
Though you can spend time on the island relaxing, reading, and swimming, the island can also help arrange a boat ride and other activities in the area.
