What To Expect
Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral
Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral, built in the late 1880s by French colonists, is one of the few remaining strongholds of Catholicism in the largely Buddhist Vietnam. Located in Paris Square, the name Notre Dame was given after the installation of the statue ‘Peaceful Notre Dame’ in 1959. In 1962, the Vatican conferred the Cathedral status as a basilica and gave it the official name of Saigon Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica. Measuring almost 60 metres in height, the cathedral’s distinctive neo-Romanesque features include the all-red brick façade (which were imported from Marseille), stained glass windows, two bell towers containing six bronze bells that still ring to this day, and a peaceful garden setting in the middle of downtown Ho Chi Minh City District 1.
Central Post Office
The Central Post Office in Ho Chi Minh is a beautifully preserved remnant of French colonial times and perhaps the grandest post office in all of Southeast Asia. Located next door to Notre Dame Cathedral, the two cultural sites can be visited together and offers visitors a chance to imagine life in Vietnam during the times of the Indochinese Empire. The building was designed by Alfred Foulhoux and features arched windows and wooden shutters, just as it would have in its heyday in the late 19th Century.

5.00This was a wonderful introduction to Ho Chi Minh City with stops at the Chinese Market, Ba Thien Hau Pagoda, the Independence Palace and other sites. Lunch at Ngon 138 Restaurant was absolutely delicious. It was also interesting to see everyday life in the city as we drove in the comfort if our air conditioned van. Our guide, Harry (Tien), was very knowledgeable, helpful and especially friendly. His commentary made the entire day very enjoyable. Most importantly, Harry adapted the itinerary to meet our group’s specific needs and ensured that we returned to the cruise terminal in Phu My at exactly the time we requested. Harry was a joy to spend the day with and made our visit to Ho Chi Minh City memorable.

5.00Liam was a great guide. He gave us a comprehensive two day tour of Saigon and the Mekong Delta. He had a great sense of humor, which made for a fun experience He has a good command of English and when we were not able to understand due to his pronunciation, he would spell a word so that we were able to understand. He is extremely helpful and sensitive to our needs!

5.00Everything was perfect! We had very limited time and so Evelyn made sure that we saw the highlights! We especially enjoyed our lunch of Pho and the coffee break. Mr T, our driver, kept us safe and got us back to the ship on time.
