Better than advertised Enjoyed 3 different wineries as well as film worthy lunch in the vineyard. St Emilion is worth a more lengthy stay.

We had a great time on this tour, the guide was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of information prior to arrival at the wineries. The van was comfortable, we stopped at St Emilion for a short visit and then went to 3 wineries. We had plenty of time on all wineries and had a picnic under the trees close to the vineyard. The wines were great and the staff at the wineries were very friendly.

We had a great day in St Emilion with Xavier – a very informative guide whose English was excellent. As we drove towards St Emilion Xavier gave us an explanation of the different wines of the left bank, right bank and Entre Deux Mers, which set us up for the day. We began our tour of the iconic UNESCO site with a drive around the area –which offered great views over the town and surrounding vineyards – before having just under an hour to explore the town. (Our group wasted time trying to find the loos directed by tourist information office – but in these post Covid days of paying by card/phone, none of us had coins!) Xavier had recommended we climb the church tower, and our entire group followed his advice. On a clear morning the views were exceptional. We then went to Chateau le Chatelet where Virginie guided us through two vintages of the Grand Cru Classe and Grand Cru Cuvee. These wines were exceptional and a great start to our tasting experience. We headed for lunch and our second tasting at the organic Le Château Haut Rocher. Gaspar proved to be a gifted tour guide as we toured the property to see the vines and the tanks of recently picked 2025 vintage. We tried 4 wines (Château Haut-Rocher Saint Emilion Grand Cru; Pavillon du Haut Rocher; Château Bréhat, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux and the 100% merlot Cuvée B de Bréhat). We then enjoyed the St Emilion wine with a picnic lunch ( a nice selection of cheeses and a vegetarian puy lentil salad, followed by stewed apple). We were blessed with a dry, warm day and ate in front of the chateau under the trees. The wine was very good value. We ended the day at Chateau le Grangey, another organic family vineyard where they also produce a 100% Merlot which they age for 12 months in amphorae. After a quick stop in the cave we were treated to a tasting of Les 5 Parcelles and 3 vintages of Château Grangey. It was great to try wines that are only available at cellar doors (and in one case, at Michelin Star restaurants) rather than in the shops in town. The pace of the day was good (it was our fault we had insufficient time to explore St Emilion itself). And with 4 couples, it felt a good size group. I’d recommend this tour.
