With a mix of cultural influences on the nation's cuisine, it's no wonder that Malaysian food is a lip-smackingly complex beast.
We'll meet in the old district of Chow Kit and Kampung Baru, one of the last remaining districts that is yet to be developed into glassy high rises.
Don't expect other foreigners. Stroll in this local neighbourhood of nightly street eats, sampling a variety of 15+ tastings, carefully curated for their culinary history.
The flavours change across the year, but highlights include the fragrant bowls of laksa, hand stretched rotis, nasi lemak with piquant sambal and herbal chicken rendang, charcoal-grilled mackerel, and soothing iced cendol with custard-like durian. We'll end with a fine view of the mighty Petronas Twin Towers.
I'm sure you have a lot of your plate, but here's some food for thought. While it's possible to attempt such a culinary marathon yourself, you'd be one sandwich short of a Malaysian picnic not to join me on our moveable food feast.

Great chance to try the real “locals” food and to be introduced to some new delicacies that we maybe wouldn’t have tried otherwise while in Kuala Lumpur.

Thank you for a superb food tour which was perfectly pitched for our family of 2 adults and 3 teens. The food was all delicious and represented good value. Steve, our guide, was great fun and informative. We loved wandering around KL. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

This was our first food tour adventure and it was amazing. Kirim was our guide. Extremely knowledgeable, she shared the history and culture behind all the foods as well as Malaysia. She also went out of her way to share some local fruits from the nearby markets. Her energy and excitement for the local cuisine was infectious. We tried many different foods from multiple eateries, all truly authentic and fresh. We were 2 of a group of 8. Perfect size and we had wonderful companions which added to the enjoyment. Some foods we all liked and some foods only a few. But that is the essence of a food tour. To sample foods you would otherwise never experience. Any future food tours now have a high bar to compare with.

We had an excellent experience on the food tour trying lots of varied cuisine from Malaysia and beyond. Our guide, Stephen, was really good- very knowledgeable about the food and KL and took us to more local stalls and restaurant which added to the experience. I would recommend pacing yourself as there is a lot of food to try.

It was a great start into our Malasia holiday trip that could not have been better. Sean was a fantastic guide who gave us a lot of interesting information around the food, but also about KL and its traditions. Food was more than enough and served in a broad variety. Also our 11y old son enjoyed it a lot and felt comfortable at all times. That was also due to our fantastic group, which only consisted of 6 people.

A fabulous evening out with Jay, our guide. We experienced more than 15 different typical Malay dishes and drinks in street eateries. The group size of 8 was perfect. Very informative and good fun. I would highly recommend.

Ian was fantastic. From prior communication to meeting us at the starting point, tour, and finally the end. I would book a tour with Ian again. He made us, a family of four (with two kids) welcome. Thorough explanation of everything, history lessons, and regular chatting along the way. Don’t hesitate to book!

We had the BEST Sambal Streets tour with Ian! Every dish we had was absolutely delicious and Ian went out of his way to make sure we got to try the absolute best of KL and Malaysian cuisine. He is a fountain of all knowledge and explained every dish, its ingredients and history in amazing detail. I learnt so much from this tour and would highly recommend to anyone considering doing a food tour in KL. I particularly loved visiting the Chow Kit market before and learning about the ingredients. Thanks Ian for all your knowledge and taking us to the best spots!!

Let me start by saying that our guide was easily the best part of the tour. Kiran didn't just give us fun facts to go with our meals. Her expertise on the historical aspects and how that blended into the culture was fantastic. She shared this world of food with pride and it was clear that it was a personal passion of hers. We couldn't help but smile all the way through. I am honored by all that she shared with us. The effort and love put into every bite spoke for itself. Just the first leg of our tour had such a diverse range of goodies to try. As we made it to our second location found myself a little anxious about being able to try everything before I got too full. But the way the tour was organized, had me full by the very last bite. 10/10 Be brave and have some durian!
