With a mix of cultural influences on the nation's cuisine, it's no wonder that Malaysian food is a lip-smackingly complex beast.

We'll meet in the old district of Chow Kit and Kampung Baru, one of the last remaining districts that is yet to be developed into glassy high rises.

Don't expect other foreigners. Stroll in this local neighbourhood of nightly street eats, sampling a variety of 15+ tastings, carefully curated for their culinary history.

The flavours change across the year, but highlights include the fragrant bowls of laksa, hand stretched rotis, nasi lemak with piquant sambal and herbal chicken rendang, charcoal-grilled mackerel, and soothing iced cendol with custard-like durian. We'll end with a fine view of the mighty Petronas Twin Towers.

I'm sure you have a lot of your plate, but here's some food for thought. While it's possible to attempt such a culinary marathon yourself, you'd be one sandwich short of a Malaysian picnic not to join me on our moveable food feast.

Malaysian cuisine is a complex beast, a blend of Malay, Indian and Chinese flavours. Thankfully, you can hit the street food tour scene running if your join our daily 4-hour food feast. Exclusive to just 8 guests, you’ll be led away from the tourist crowds to one of the last remaining undeveloped districts, a place known for its community spirit and sizzling street eats. We don't want to spoil the surprise, but prepare to drool over banana-leaf grilled mackerel with piquant sambal, coconut-steamed nasi lemak with rich chicken rendang, flamed-grilled skewers with nutty peanut satay among a dozen more tastings in places you'd struggle to find alone.

Amazing experience. Our guide was brilliant. Knowledgeable, enthusiastic and friendly. We visited parts of Kuala Lumpur that we wouldn't have ventured anywhere near or discovered on our own. The food tasting was fantastic and pushed our tastebuds beyond their normal boundaries (in a good way). It was also incredible to learn how the food tour helped to support the local people.

We visited many eateries where the locals eat and it was a delicious way to explore the people and foods of Malaysia. Steven was our guide and a very friendly and knowledgeable person. Halfway through the tour my wife and I were sharing dishes instead of having our own.

Stephen introduced us to many local dishes as well as local fruits and drinks. As it was our first day, it was a great and informative start for our holiday in Malaysia. Fabulous tour. Stephen, our guide, was really friendly and informative and not only did he introduce us to a huge variety of local delicacies, he showed us some great sighs too and offered us lots of helpful information. Food was amazing and more than plentiful!
