With a mix of cultural influences on the nation's cuisine, it's no wonder that Malaysian food is a lip-smackingly complex beast.
We'll meet in the old district of Chow Kit and Kampung Baru, one of the last remaining districts that is yet to be developed into glassy high rises.
Don't expect other foreigners. Stroll in this local neighbourhood of nightly street eats, sampling a variety of 15+ tastings, carefully curated for their culinary history.
The flavours change across the year, but highlights include the fragrant bowls of laksa, hand stretched rotis, nasi lemak with piquant sambal and herbal chicken rendang, charcoal-grilled mackerel, and soothing iced cendol with custard-like durian. We'll end with a fine view of the mighty Petronas Twin Towers.
I'm sure you have a lot of your plate, but here's some food for thought. While it's possible to attempt such a culinary marathon yourself, you'd be one sandwich short of a Malaysian picnic not to join me on our moveable food feast.

Our delightful guide Nadia was fantastic! So knowledgeable, passionate, kind and caring. She took us on a magical food journey thru Malaysia! Every tasty morsel that hit our tastebuds was accompanied by stories of how it is made, ingredients etc.. Our group bonded over the shared love of food tastings, with lots of laughs and banter along the way. By the end our group was at bursting point having eaten a lot on our 4hr journey. Make sure you bring your appetite, good walking shoes, open mind and heart - so then you can throughly enjoy the experience as much as I did. 10/10!!! Highly recommend.

A truly great experience with heaps of fantastic food. I enjoyed everything, but what I especially liked was trying things I would not normally go for. Here’s looking at you, durian! Lots of interesting tidbits about Malaysian history, culture and cuisine were explained by our wonderful guide Stephen, who was also very adept at adjusting portions as our bellies became full. Can’t believe it’s taken me till now to do a food tour; this was my first but it certainly won’t be the last.

Excellent tour of a different side of KL as well as getting a great understanding from Kiran about the issues facing the traditional residents and communities - and alot (and I mean alot) of great food. The group include San Francisco Chinese, indian fanily with Tennessee man, and a foodie German. Why do I say this? The mix of the group that Chefs tour gets adds to the fun

Our wonderful warm and keen foodie guide Jay made this tour one of the best we’ve been on. Every bite of food (and we ate a LOT) was delicious or interesting or both, and Jay also explains why that item has been included, how it’s made and the cultural background. Highly recommend the adventure. Thank you Jay for a fantastic introduction to KL AND Malaysian food.

The tour guide, Kiran, was a true master of her craft. She was inviting, engaging and so friendly. I was late for my scheduled time so she added me on to her group at last minute and I believe in fate bc this coincidence turned into the best food tour of my life. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys peeking behind the curtain in new countries.
