A wonderful customized roadtrip around Opolu Samoa!

5.00Just as promised, this tour is Customizable! Guide Josh, a nice young man, gave us total control while suggesting key places he felt we’d want to see. Driving his well maintained sedan we Essentially traveled a cross island loop on good roads visiting Many beautiful natural features of the island — waterfalls, palm lined beaches, dozens of family villages, mountain views, and a quaint beach retreat/resort restaurant with unbelievable views during a delicious lunch (at our expense as expected.) We felt the absolute highlight of the day was an hour long visit to To-Sua Ocean Trench where we descended a ladder +/-30 feet into a sinkhole just above the beach. Cool clear emerald-green waters awaited us at the bottom. We were thankful that Josh brought us there early as crowds began to arrive making the one-at-a-time ladder climb a bit crowded and slow. We’d Highly recommend this “just us two” tour. Josh was kind, thoughtful of our comfort needs, and we found him to be just as curious about our life as we were about his life in Samoa… And finally Josh brought us to a large market near the port where he selected a few traditional Samoan delicacies for us to sample! It really was a great day on The Samoan island of Opolu.. Visited from a transpacific cruise stop originating in Sydney Aus.

Beautiful Sites Around Samoa, but Uncomfortable Ride

3.00We visited two waterfalls, a snorkeling site with giant clams, an impressive sinkhole, with a stop for lunch at the end. There is A LOT of driving involved in this activity, and unfortunately the vehicle we rode in, a small SUV, was really cramped and uncomfortable for 4 adults plus the driver. Jake, or guide, is a very good driver but not really an experienced guide. He was very courteous though and did his best to make our trip enjoyable. We wish him well!

5.00This tour was an amazing way to experience the beauty and culture of Samoa. My guide was very friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about Samoan history, and he took me to several hidden gems and stunning sites around the island. It rained a little, but it didn’t take away from the experience at all—Samoa is beautiful in any weather. I highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting a meaningful and scenic introduction to the country.

5.00We were picked up by our guide directly at the port. First we were asked what we would like to do, because we were still a bit undecided, our guide suggested us various things from which we put together our tour ourselves. A special highlight was the R.L. Stevenson house. Our guide Afa also told us about each location, answered all questions about Samoa, let us discover everything at our own pace and even cracked coconuts for us!

5.00Afa was so nice and informative. He took us everywhere we wanted to go and was patient and accommodating. He even had a plastic bag for us to put our wet swimsuits in after snorkeling. And he made sure we on time for our return to the ship. Thanks again Afa. Great day!

5.00I had an incredible day exploring the island of Upolu with my two teenagers. The tour was completely personalised, relaxed and perfectly paced, with stunning stops including waterfalls, coastal views, swimming spots and cultural highlights. Being collected from and returned to our accommodation made the whole experience effortless. Our guide Liz was phenomenal. Knowledgeable, friendly and great with teenagers, she made the day engaging and memorable for all of us. This tour was a real highlight of our trip and highly recommended.

5.00Matua Tours are amazing & definitely worth going on. I spent a full day on a personalised tour of Upolu with 2 of the best tour guides ever, Joshua & Liz, loved them! They were so knowledgeable & accommodating, I saw & learnt heaps & had so much fun doing it. The team even picked me up & dropped me off at my accommodation despite it being quite remote, which was super appreciated. Matua Tours were the only tour company who didn’t have a 2 person booking minimum, as a solo traveller this was a godsend. Kisa, the owner, was super helpful in organising it & communication was easy & always quick response times. I would highly recommend these guys for any tours in Samoa. You will have so much fun & truly experience Samoa with a local. Thank you, Kisa, Liz & Joshua, so much, the tour was the highlight of my trip to Samoa & I hope to see you again next time 😊
