What To Expect
South Mission Beach Park
South Mission Bay Park sits at the southern tip of the Mission Beach peninsula in San Diego, right where the ocean meets the bay channel. The Ocean Front Walk begins at the South Mission Bay and runs north/up the peninsula for biking, jogging, or strolling. Fire pits make this a nice spot for an evening bonfire by the beach.
Ocean Beach
After setting sail from Mission Bay, you'll head towards the open Pacific Ocean. In just 10 minutes, you'll pass through the jetties and enjoy a scenic view of Ocean Beach's famous Dog Beach and the iconic Ocean Beach Pier before venturing into the vast blue waters.

5.00Even though we weren’t able to see whales, we saw a buuunch of dolphins and that made up for it completely. The crew was very attentive and communicative. They gave us a free voucher to come back because we didn’t see any whales, and I thought that was going above and beyond

4.00We had a great time on the whale and dolphin watching tour. We were able to see some whales, along with some dolphins and sea lions. While we didn’t see as many animals as we initially expected, that’s just the reality of nature—it’s hard to predict exactly where they’ll show up. We still got to see some, and it was exciting when they did appear. A couple of tips: if you’re prone to motion sickness, definitely take medication ahead of time, and be sure to bring layers—it gets very chilly out on the water. The staff was a solid 10/10: extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive to guests. Overall, a very enjoyable and well‑run tour.

5.00This is my second time going whale-watching with this company and every time that I have went has been a wonderful experience. First trip was Labor Day weekend of 2023 and we saw a large groups of short nose common dolphins, large nose common dolphins, and even Risso dolphins. I was in San Diego again for a work trip in April 2025 and wanted to try to catch a baleen whale sighting. I knew immediately to go with this same tour operator. We had multiple sightings of a large fin whale that was happily feeding on krill! This time, I also opted in to buy the $1 herbal motion sickness patch that they have at the check-in area as I’m no longer as young and spry as I used to be and found it to be helpful. Sportsman Seafoods next door is a great restaurant to grab food at. I recommend checking the restaurant hours and if it aligns with your scheduled tour, to get to the area about 1.5 hours ahead of your tour so you can stop by the restaurant and eat the catch of the day which they serve grilled.

5.00It was amazing. The waters were a bit rough, but we still had an amazing time. It was great seeing a whale, but the best part for me were the dolphins. The crew was excellent. Everyone was very friendly and the tour guide was very knowledgeable. I purchased the photograph package and it was well worth money. They captured pictures that I was not able to capture. I would definitely take the tour again
