We were expecting a more “scenic” ride. Much is just through people’s back yards. It was more of a party trip than a guided tour. Not what we expected. Rather pricey for what we experienced.

The Santa Fe scenic train ride, one of many options, by Sky Rail, was an enjoyable afternoon diversion. The ride takes you to the countrysids south of Santa Fe and includes some native dancing, an opera singer and a guitar playing singer of pop songs. The total time was about 3 1/2 hours and was well worth the money.

From the great emails and directions for arrival, to the welcoming staff at the depot, to the engineers on the waiting line, to the waitstaff in the train cars, this was an exemplary experience. The historic Legacy was touched on, and the venue was intimate and exciting. The live music was stellar, and the selection of Refreshments was superb. The camaraderie between guests and the development of new friendships was quite rewarding. Highly recommended.

The open air rail cars were a surprise and made the ride a unique way to see the Santa Fe countryside.

I really enjoyed this trip, probably because I love trains of all kinds. This is an out and back trip from Santa Fe to 2 miles this side of Lemy. (I asked the attendant why the train didn’t go all the way to Lemy. She said it is a steep incline and causes a lot of ware on the old brakes and is hard for the engine to push it back up the hill. ) The track is the original spur from Lemy to Santa Fe on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe railroad. When they built the railroad the main line bypassed Santa Fe because of the hilly terrain and went straight to Albuquerque even though Albuquerque was a very small town then and Santa Fe was the main town. They have 100 year old coaches which are still very comfortable and two flat cars where you can stand and watch the terrain on all sides. I spent most of the trip there. It’s only about 18 mile trip one way and the train tends to go quite slowly, particularly over the multiple small bridges that cross arroyos. I like New Mexico scenery so it is interesting to me. There are 3 coach cars and 1 first class vintage parlor car. Each has their own live musician. I really liked ours. He played blues on an amplified acoustic guitar. Wasn’t to fond of one of the other musicians. There is a toilet in each car and a bar in each car. There serve 1 glass of complimentary champagne but if you want something else there is a charge. All the staff were really nice. Although it is expensive for a short train trip, I feel like I’m contributing to a good cause to keep the historic tracks and route alive.

Beautiful Sunset with live music and excellent bar service from Xeek! Highly recommend, and would do again. Each car has a different experience - one car was doing a Speakeasy, one was Flamenco dancing, mine was just live music, the bar, and the sunset (heavenly!)

This was a wonderful experience. Starting at the train yard located very close to the downtown area. There are restaurant and coffee if you want to eat something before the train. We were upgraded to the wine car in an old train car that was restored really well. The views were amazing and the dancing performance was incredible.
