This is an excellent and very informative workshop for learning the history, evolution, and application of sashiko patterns and techniques. Even being somewhat experienced in embroidery (but hadn't tried sashiko before), I learned a great deal of different techniques that I can apply to future sashiko projects. Risa-san is a natural teacher (as is her lovely mom) who guides you through the process but leaves you to develop your own style and creativity. I also appreciated seeing in action how the sashiko-specific tools are properly used in practice, which was different from what I was used to seeing (like using the head of the needle to undo stitches instead of the pointed part). This was a fun and practical project to do and there was definitely a point in sewing the patterns where we lost track of time and fell into a kind of meditative groove until it was nearly finished. It was a great de-stressing activity!
