How can a pie shop, along a route abundant with pie opportunities, be a special highlight? Betty's Pies near Two Harbors is a local institution. For decades hungry North Shore visitors have found their way to this historic restaurant to get their fix, and we're big fans of their 5 layer chocolate pie. You will satisfy your need for dessert any time of day.

My sister and I stayed for 4 days in a cute little B&B in Two Harbors. There is a beach/ boat launch 5 blocks from our house. We visited Gooseberry Falls which was only a few miles away. There is a lot of steps if you choose to go off the main path. The trees still had color which was beautiful, there was many people as the weather was perfect. We also visited Split Rock Lighthouse. If you are just going to the lighthouse you don’t need a park sticker. You have to pay $8 each to go to the lighthouse. There was also a small museum where you could read about the area and see an actual glass prism that is used in the lighthouse. The guide had much information on the lighthouse and the water area. He had many stories. The lighthouse was being restored so we couldn’t go inside. We also went to Iona’s Beach. Lake Superior is very clean, you can see all the rock in the water. Loved it Highway 61 is a beautiful drive, you can see the lake on most of it. There is also 2 short tunnels you drive through.

Fantastic way to learn about and explore a huge area at your own pace. I also used the Cape Cod tour and that was great also.

The guides suggested stops and information about state parks gave us many options along our route. The detailed stories of lives along the lake and surrounding area gave us a personalized view rather than just looking at our gps. We will do it again next road trip.

Rustic Inn pie is better than Betty’s. We also enjoyed the side trips. Good directions far enough in advance.

We have enjoyed several of the guidealong tours. They make our travel much more interesting and alert us to the best stops. Well worth the money. They system knows exactly where you are and alerts you to upcoming turns and stops. The guide seems to know all the best food stops as well.

The audio was very informative and even light hearted at times. We learned more about the area than we expected. Would highly recommend the audio tour to others.

If your having difficulty downloading or glitches don’t hesitate like I did ( wasted time) call for assistance problems solved in quickly Very good narratives on trip brought attention to attractions we never knew existed on previous trips to the area.

Really an excellent way to learn about any location and the narrator always gave us plenty of warning about upcoming turn-offs and where to park. We especially enjoyed the suggestions for locations that are less known but still spectacular and the history behind everything makes it even more enjoyable.
