Seppelt Great Western
Join a Seppelt tour guide for a fascinating glimpse into Australia's pioneering wine history as you explore the heritage-listed underground cellars, known as "The Drives." These hand-dug cellars, excavated by out-of-work gold miners beginning in 1868, took over 60 years to complete and stretch for 3 kilometers, capable of holding over 3 million bottles of wine. The Drives are the largest underground cellars in the Southern Hemisphere and a must-visit in the Grampians Region. After emerging from the underground, enjoy a journey through Seppelt's sparkling wines, including the iconic Seppelt Sparkling Shiraz, first produced in the early 1890s. Tours depart from the Seppelt Wines Cellar Door daily at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm. A visit to the Grampians is not complete without experiencing Seppelt Great Western's historic cellars.

The underground tour of the Seppelts Winery is a must do. We were a family group of four and the group total was a very comfortable eight. The underground area is massive and extends for 3.3kms. It is a mystery to imagine all the hand digging , the deviations are hard to believe . Lined with the great drops from Seppelts the history is beautifully explained by our Guide . The Tour takes you through the tunnels for approximately one hour and you witness the famed dinner setting setting. Can’t speak more highly of the professional aspects of the tour guide , just sensational. A white wine tasting is included in the tour. Highly recommend. Take a warm jacket and be a little wary of some uneven surfaces , otherwise a very easy and enjoyable walk . Off peak is the ‘Go’ 😉

Awesome activity. The cellar was splendid. I can imagine what it feels like to work there. The tour guide was good in delivering the background story of the place, added with humour and creativity.

We did the tour with Tyler, which was very pleasant and funny. Even though he was new, he seemed to have a lot of knowledge about the history of the place.

We booked online for the Tour plus a grazing platter for 2. What a great way to spend an afternoon! We arrived a little early for the tour so had a drink and our grazing platter which was fantastic value for money. Tom was our Tour Guide and presented an interesting and engaging tour. The winery is very interesting but the underground tunnels are next level. Lots of tunnels to walk through and so fascinating. This is a must see attraction. Afterwards we had generous tastings and finished off our platter. Lovely day.

This is the third time we have visited Seppelt’s and done the underground tour and tasting it is outstanding. You learn a lot about the history of the Great Western area and champagne making. A bonus is tasting a range of their outstanding sparkling wines We did the 12.00 AM tour (.our Guide Ricky was knowledgeable and entertaining )and followed it up with a grazing platter lunch. The whole experience was excellent

Very nice viewing of their historical setting. Unique cellar experience. Makes you want to have one of your own. Mark and Ricky gave some awesome backgrounds of the wines and we had a wonderful general conversation. More like going out for drinks with friends than a tasting.

Running a bit late we joined Taryn and a small intimate group of people on an enlightening tour over 170 years in the making. Breathtaking images were captured during an educational tour that will be forever in our top places to visit. Well worth a stop if in the vicinity of Great Western.
