Views from the observation deck were spectacular. I was fortunate to have nice clear skies during my pre-booked visit - which was purely down to luck. Not sure how things would go if you pre-book, and then on the day it’s bad visibility? Anyway I had a great viewing experience over the incredible Shanghai skyline. At the very top is an unusual sound & light show centred around a massive art piece which is actually a functional vibration dampening device for the building - that was a very enjoyable and surprising addition. I did have one small problem getting in using my passport. They expected me to show a QR code, but I couldn’t access it on Viator because I use google to login for that app. Eventually I was let in after speaking with a manager who went away and looked up my passport on his computer. Google - along with many other western apps - doesn’t work in China, so be prepared for that. I recommend using international roaming on your home country mobile sim card. If you buy a China sim card at the airport like I did originally, there will probably be all kind of problems accessing gmail, google maps etc. so be aware if it’s your first visit to China.
