Shu Feng Ya Yun Sichuan Opera

Hail a taxi to Shufeng Yayun Teahouse located in Chengdu Culture Park. All entrance tickets include Sichuan tea service at bamboo tables and chairs. Enjoy a lively 1.5-hour show that fuses acting, acrobatics, puppetry, folk music and dancing. The Sichuan Opera derives its subject matter from Chinese classical novels, legends and folk tales. Several distinct acts — Changing Faces, Spitting Fire and Rolling Light — feature dazzling sets and costumes that celebrate Southwestern China’s performing and fine arts. During Changing Faces, perhaps the most popular routine, the actors quickly switch between different masks to portray characters’ personalities as the drama develops. Spitting Fire is a literal act that's distinctive of Sichuan Opera; it's also a performance that elicits oohs and ahhs from the crowd. Rolling Light involves a performer acting out a variety of routines like jumping over a bench or dancing with a fan, all the while balancing a bowl lit with fire on his head!

The show was spectacular. There were all kinds of local entertainment shows bundled together, as they are used to in Sichuan. I also had the opportunity to experience a similar show, but this was the better one, so I can only recommend.

Nice experience even if perhaps a non-Chinese tourist does not enjoy it much as a full-bodied part of the show is dialogue in Chinese ... more or less you understand the sense of history thanks to the gesticulation of the actors who are still very good in all the various performances that follow one another. NB: The “change face” show lasts only 15 minutes at the end, an hour and a half is a bit long but the performances are all beautiful and also the massage experience.

  • Amazing show used to having tourists in the audience

Amazing show for all age groups, I really loved it, and it's definitely one of the highlights of my Chengdu trip. You get shown to your seat, poured Jasmin tea, given snacks if you paid for it. The hostess translates the introduction to the acts in English after presenting in Chinese. It's a joy to see the entertainers also enjoying themselves and the audience appreciating the talented performers. Would recommend for all to experience this show if and when visiting this beautiful city.

The opera was very good, not all we understood due to the language barrier. The face changing was fantastic! Your staff also offer a brilliant service to your guests.

A spectacle that is well worth it and goes beyond the famous exchange of masks. Various artists with different performances, from musicians to a woman who surprises doing shadow play with her hands! A unique experience and an excellent opportunity to learn more about the rich Chinese culture.

No communication beforehand about how to get the tickets, usually with other bookings we get sent a message with our tickets, or a message with instructions on how to pick them up. We had to send a message before the show asking what was up and how to get the tickets we booked

So many different talents presented at this show, and some truly skilled veteran performers from opera singers to musicians to acrobats. The mask-changing was amazing! We paid extra for the VIP experience and I'm not sure it was quite worth how much more expensive it was, but we definitely loved getting seats right up front -- great for photos!

We booked this last minute through Mr Lee, a tour guide in Chengdu. We met him before the show where he gave us an English explanation of the show to set the scene. It turned out to be absolutely amazing. There was many different acts that were all unique to the culture. Highly recommend going! They also had English subtitles on tv screens (although there wasn’t heaps of talking anyway). Worth reaching out to him to organise cheaper tickets and the explanation for those that don’t speak Chinese. Mr Tray Lee Email - [email protected] WeChat - 13398186696
