Snorkeling in a fissure caused by two tectonic plates drifting apart is something you can't do everyday! Silfra is the name of a big 'crack' stretching parallel to the North American and a micro-plate called Hreppar that broken off from the Eurasian plate.
Silfra has world-renowned clear and drinkable water with over 100 metre visibility daily. This is unlike any tour you can do in Iceland and is something you can't do anywhere else in the world.
We are the only company to offer wetsuit and drysuit. This means members of your group can book different options and still be together in the water.
We include photos and usually take around 40-100 photos as standard depending on the size of the tour and you will be able to download them after at least a few days.
We always have small groups, 6 people per guide. This allows for a better and more personal feel. If you have a group of 7 or more you can be together preparing your equipment but in the water some of you will be separate.

The location of Silfra, where the snorkeling takes place, is within Thingvellir National park. Passengers, while driving through, get a chance to view some of the beautiful nature the national park has to offer.
Heading out from your Reykjavík accommodation to Silfra takes about 45 minutes. After greeting your certified guide upon arrival, you'll gear up, listen to a safety overview, and head into the glacially flooded fissure known as Silfra. You'll spend around 30–40 minutes in the water before exiting and walking back around 5 minutes walk. You'll then get a chance of warming up with a well earned hot chocolate. We’ll take photos during the snorkeling. Typically 40–100 images, depending on group size and skill level. The photos will be available for download a few days later free of charge. For the drysuit option, Please bring your own one thermal base-layer. We recommend bringing thick (preferably wool) socks to help keep your feet warm while snorkeling. We’re the only company offering both wetsuit and drysuit options. This means members of your group can book in wetsuits or drysuits and you will still be in the same group in the water.

Amazing once in a lifetime experience - didn't let the snowstorm on arrival dampen our spirits! Dory was a great guide; she took fab photos to remember the experience and we all stayed dry throughout. Visibility underwater is incredible! Hot chocolate was very welcome at the end!

This was definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity. It was beautiful and a little challenging. Thankfully, our guide Nebo was there to skillfully assist in and out of the water.

This experience was one I was really looking forward to in Iceland - and was a little nervous about. It didn't disappoint! Gretar answered all our questions in advance of the tour which was helpful to prepare for it. Did the dry suit snorkel and was nervous about the cold. Turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip to Iceland. A special shout-out to Doris, who was our guide in and out of the water after a general briefing. I was uncomfortable in my suit - and feeling confined and uneasy. She was patient, took time to ensure I was okay and even recognized that my helmet may have been too small. She was right. A larger helmet made me so much more comfortable. She kept an eye on me and all those in our group throughout the swim - which was so comfortable and breathtaking. Many thanks for Doris for making my experience an unforgettable one. In general, the only feedback I'd offer to the company is to make it clearer in the description of the tour that if your health questionnaire has a a "yes" anywhere, a Dr will need to complete and sign their clearance form at least 48 hrs before your tour. I'd hate for anyone to miss out bc they missed this important detail. Thanks to Gretar and Doris for a wonderful and safe experience!

What a great trip. Our guide Anil was brilliant, friendly and funny. The dry suits work perfectly, hardly feel any cold. The snorkeling is great fun, with stunning underwater views and quite relaxing.

What a beautiful - and cold! - experience! Was a truly unique adventure to snorkel in crystal clear, filtered, glacial waters between tectonic plates. Dory was an excellent guide, ensuring that everyone was well suited up, safe, and as comfortable as can be. She also took some excellent pictures. The Adventure Vikings team took great care of us from start to finish. Next time, more pairs of socks!!!!

The Adventure Vikings team took great care of us from start to finish. The small 6 person group was the perfect size to not feel crowded or pushed out of any portion of enjoyment. But next time, more pairs of socks!!!!

We wore warm base layers to the location and then we were given an insolated onsey to wear on top of that and then the dry suit. Stayed surprising warm in the water! Our guide Nebo was great and kept us laughing. Highly recommend!

Both guides were great, we swam with Doris who was good fun and very entertaining and also made triple sure we had all the right gear on and fitted correctly. She took lots of photos and made sure we enjoyed the trip as much as possible. The swim itself is amazing, unlike anything we’ve done before. Thoroughly recommend.
