Snorkeling in a fissure caused by two tectonic plates drifting apart is something you can't do everyday! Silfra is the name of a big 'crack' stretching parallel to the North American and a micro-plate called Hreppar that broken off from the Eurasian plate.
Silfra has world-renowned clear and drinkable water with over 100 metre visibility daily. This is unlike any tour you can do in Iceland and is something you can't do anywhere else in the world.
We are the only company to offer wetsuit and drysuit. This means members of your group can book different options and still be together in the water.
We include photos and usually take around 40-100 photos as standard depending on the size of the tour and you will be able to download them after at least a few days.
We always have small groups, 6 people per guide. This allows for a better and more personal feel. If you have a group of 7 or more you can be together preparing your equipment but in the water some of you will be separate.

The location of Silfra, where the snorkeling takes place, is within Thingvellir National park. Passengers, while driving through, get a chance to view some of the beautiful nature the national park has to offer.
Heading out from your Reykjavík accommodation to Silfra takes about 45 minutes. After greeting your certified guide upon arrival, you'll gear up, listen to a safety overview, and head into the glacially flooded fissure known as Silfra. You'll spend around 30–40 minutes in the water before exiting and walking back around 5 minutes walk. You'll then get a chance of warming up with a well earned hot chocolate. We’ll take photos during the snorkeling. Typically 40–100 images, depending on group size and skill level. The photos will be available for download a few days later free of charge. For the drysuit option, Please bring your own one thermal base-layer. We recommend bringing thick (preferably wool) socks to help keep your feet warm while snorkeling. We’re the only company offering both wetsuit and drysuit options. This means members of your group can book in wetsuits or drysuits and you will still be in the same group in the water.

Terrible , they promised to give the free photos after 5 days I checked and they never upload our groups picture. I sent them an email and asked them to give us back the picture but they never reply. Don’t use their service they are very unprofessional!

Just do it! If you’re hesitant or on the fence, just do it! Once in a lifetime experience. I’m the type of person that hates the cold water but I did this in February 32f water temp and don’t regret it at all!

Mesmerising experience, beautiful to see would recommend going. Took me a while to control where I was going, but it’s not an overly strenuous activity & if I can keep up with the pace I’m sure it won’t be a problem for most people. Our guide Nebo was great, very informative and likes to crack a joke. Reading other reviews we were worried that we would be too cold, but the suit kept us dry and Nebo told us what to expect. No real opportunity to take photos on the journey there as it’s still dark but lovely photo opportunities on the short walk over the bridge from car park to are where you get ready. Suit does feel quite constrictive (as it should be) so just be prepared for that and don’t go if you are claustrophobic. Guides help you in and out of the suit and we got some lovely views on the return journey. I forget the name of the guide who drove us back, but he was lovely and told us lots of interesting facts about the island and its history, pointing out places of interest (wish I could recall his name to give him a shout out). Overall an experience not to miss, we felt safe throughout and really enjoyed it. If you don’t like the thought of snorkelling around fishes, don’t need to worry not one fish was in sight.

Gretar Porlaksson was amazing and extremely helpful and patient with all attendees, some were a bit anxious albeit Gretar comfortably got the tour started without a hitch and all enjoyed the day!!!

The pick up and drop off was timely. Had a great time, our tour guide Getel was amazing. Helped us with the gear and navigation in the water. Highly recommended this experience.

Type 2 fun! The ride to and fro was timely and uneventful. Once we arrived, our guide was excellent and took good care of us for the duration of this experience. Bring warm thermals (and two pairs of wool socks!) and you will stay warm, except expect your hands and face to go numb (both are in contact with the glacial water). This January morning outing included a beautiful sunrise! It’s not a long swim, but it was enough for me. The water is crystal clear, the walls of the chasm is lined with volcanic rocks, with no flora or fauna. I’m glad I did it!

10/10 experience. The equipment was top quality so I was never really cold. The experience was mind blowing and I could have gone around again. Neville our guide was brilliant. He was very experienced and knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour. I will go with Viking Adventures again!

Had such an exciting morning doing this, the tour guide was amazing so funny and really put you at ease. However an extra team member came to help at the end a lady - she wasn’t as pleasant, she was quite rude and snappy with us if we couldn’t get the suits off etc which was very hard when you couldn’t feel your fingers, she didn’t have much patience to help us and was quite rough and intimidating. I think the amount of time in the water (about 45mins) for me was the perfect amount it is so cold and it takes a lot of energy to do so by the end you are well and truly knackered. Definitely recommend doing the dry suit option as your body whilst in the water was surprisingly warm - hands and face are not so expect to be cold in them areas. Perfect group size of 6 people so it’s easy to keep up. Think the price is reasonable for the experience- only thing I would say is the pictures you see on the adverts aren’t exactly what you’ll get - well not for us anyway it would have been nice to get some group photos with the people or person you’ve booked with. Was great getting picked up and dropped off however I think if you hire a car in your trip it may be worth driving yourself so you can head off round the golden circle from there to manage your time better. If you go in the morning group the surrounding area is so beautiful at sunrise so that was so gorgeous to see

The experience itself was fantastic but Doris (the instructor) was a little rude and unclear. All of the people in our group were first timers and she pretended we knew everything about snorkeling and when someone said that this was a first experience she was very surprised and also making funny comments. She was maybe upset that day but not great customer service here. She was also a little unclear with instructions. The driver left us 10 mins walk away (it was -10 Celsius outside) and gave no indications on where to go and where to find the truck where we were supposed to get changed. Pictures arrived late.

They are the best!! Free Go Pro photos and the guide was AMAZING! So grateful I went with Adventure Vikings over the other companies. Also, they provide a fleece layer so all you need is leggings and a long sleeve or whatever the male equivalent is. I would 100% book with them!
