Snorkeling in a fissure caused by two tectonic plates drifting apart is something you can't do everyday! Silfra is the name of a big 'crack' stretching parallel to the North American and a micro-plate called Hreppar that broken off from the Eurasian plate.
Silfra has world-renowned clear and drinkable water with over 100 metre visibility daily. This is unlike any tour you can do in Iceland and is something you can't do anywhere else in the world.
We are the only company to offer wetsuit and drysuit. This means members of your group can book different options and still be together in the water.
We include photos and usually take around 40-100 photos as standard depending on the size of the tour and you will be able to download them after at least a few days.
We always have small groups, 6 people per guide. This allows for a better and more personal feel. If you have a group of 7 or more you can be together preparing your equipment but in the water some of you will be separate.

The location of Silfra, where the snorkeling takes place, is within Thingvellir National park. Passengers, while driving through, get a chance to view some of the beautiful nature the national park has to offer.
Heading out from your Reykjavík accommodation to Silfra takes about 45 minutes. After greeting your certified guide upon arrival, you'll gear up, listen to a safety overview, and head into the glacially flooded fissure known as Silfra. You'll spend around 30–40 minutes in the water before exiting and walking back around 5 minutes walk. You'll then get a chance of warming up with a well earned hot chocolate. We’ll take photos during the snorkeling. Typically 40–100 images, depending on group size and skill level. The photos will be available for download a few days later free of charge. For the drysuit option, Please bring your own one thermal base-layer. We recommend bringing thick (preferably wool) socks to help keep your feet warm while snorkeling. We’re the only company offering both wetsuit and drysuit options. This means members of your group can book in wetsuits or drysuits and you will still be in the same group in the water.

This was an amazing experience! We booked the day before after our previous plans fell through. We were able to get our medical releases done online and were booked without difficulty. The next morning, the shuttle arrived early and the drive to Silfra was relaxing. He dropped us off and our guide, Dori promptly got us oriented and into our dry suits. She was very patient and helpful as we stumbled through getting bundled up. We shuffled across the street and were able to enter the water right away. The water is 2 degrees centigrade year round and was bracing when it hits your exposed face but soon doesn’t bother as you get used to it. We floated along the fissure and the views are amazing! For people who are not strong swimmers, you don’t have to worry. The suits are very buoyant so you probably couldn’t drown if you tried. It was absolutely beautiful and the experience of a lifetime! Would strongly recommend Dori, our guide!

It was better than I expected. Ines, was fantastic. We were lucky to have 20 degree weather and I brought way to many under layers. The water is freezing, but only on you face. It's glacial fresh water, so no marine life, but the water is crystal clear and tastes so good. It is a must do while in Iceland.

This swim in Silfra was an incredible experience and Kaya was an incredible guide. She made the whole experience very pleasant and she is very amicable. I would do this again but in winter to see the different scenery

Fabulous experience. Was wondering if it would be worth it after the effort of getting into the dry suits but was such an incredible experience. Our guide Arnold was wonderful. Pick of the guides we encountered on the day. Highly recommend

Such an amazing experience, can’t recommend enough. Pick up was super easy and they even pushed my time back so I could eat breakfast first. Ines was a wonderful guide and I’m already wishing I could go back tomorrow and snorkel again.

A fantastic experience! The lake is breathtaking, and the expedition very well organized: very good equipment (keeps you warm and dry, except for part of the face and the hands), knowledgeable and attentive guides, small groups in the water - and delicious hot chocolate and great free photos of your dive as a reward! I would recommend the dry suit the first time for sure: swimming/snorkeling in cold water takes some getting used to it. Looking forward to doing this with a wetsuit next time.

Perfect organization on-site, perfect support. Other than underwear, you do not need to bring anything at all. The briefing by Kaja was professional and caring. She was incredibly friendly and even helped us with getting dressed. Apparently, she checked that everything fit perfectly on our bodies. She explained the process to us and showed us a map of the structure of the Silfra fissure. Entering the water also took place in individual steps, so that we could get used to the water temperature. The snorkeling itself was very relaxed and easy, as a gentle current pushed us through the channel. The view was breathtaking. Kaja always kept an eye on us and asked if everything was alright. We felt safe and well taken care of. It was one of the most beautiful moments ever. Many pictures were also taken, which we will receive in 2 days. It was an unforgettable stay! Thanks to the entire team at Viking Adventures
