Start your day with us in the charming lakeside village of Virpazar, the gateway to Lake Skadar’s internationally renowned bird reserve. As the sun rises and the lake awakens, you’ll step aboard a traditional wooden boat - just as locals have for generations - to explore one of Europe’s richest bird habitats.

This is the best time for bird-watching: the water is calm, the air is fresh, and hundreds of bird species are at their most active. Whether you’re a seasoned ornithologist or love the peace of nature, you’ll be captivated by sights like elegant herons, flocks of cormorants gliding over the water, and even the majestic Dalmatian pelican - but for this sighting bring some luck.

  • Highly recommended

It's definitely worth the early start to get out on the lake before all the tourist boats set off. Our captain/guide was very knowledgeable. Both for the best spots to see birds and the birds we were seeing.

The lake and the canals are beautiful. We choose especialy for the birdwatchingtour early in the morning but our guide, though he was very friendly, wasn’t much of a birder. The boat was OK but it wasn’t that comfortable for birding because you sit with your back to the water.

A stunning experience and the highlight of our holiday. You go out on a basic wooden boat with a guide. The guide was friendly, helpful (assisted me on and off the boat) and knowledgeable about the birds. We saw lots of Kingfishers, Coots, Great Crested Grebes, White and Grey Herons, Cormorant and the Dalmatian Pelican. We were offered wine which was a pleasant surprise. My only disappointment was how littered the lake and National Park are given the country has been so clean elsewhere. Definitely worth the long drive and early start

This tour starts at an hour most tourist are still waking up, so it is lovely peaceful and quiet. We were lucky to see some kingfishers and a pelican. The guide is timely, and knowledgeable. I highly recommend! For more reviews, check out the company “Kingfisher”; very positive and helpful reviews.

  • Fantastic tour in a beautiful natural setting

We had been recommended several boat tours on Lake Skadar prior to going but Kingfisher came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. The boat is comfortable with plenty of room (and shade) to enjoy the two hour tour on Lake Skadar. If you are interested in nature and wildlife the early morning trip is for you - two hours is plenty of time to see the highlights without it becoming too much. Coffee/ tea and a snack is provided during the tour and the guide helped us to spot plenty of species of bird and wader as well as talking to us about the history of the lake and its strategic importance. A very enjoyable experience and well worth signing up to with Kingfisher.
