Outstanding experience! Our archeologist tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable of Pompeii, its history, and the ongoing excavation activities. I absolutely recommend this tour. One of the best sites I’ve been lucky enough to visit.
Very Uncaring Experience for Seniors

Very poor experience with the guide, Luigi, at the Pompeii site. While my friend found that he was knowledgable and chose good places to visit, he was completely uncaring and unhelpful with members of the group who had some mobility issues. He refused to slow the pace of walking down, and I was told afterwards that he made rude and embarassing comments to the entiire group about the 3 group members who chose not to proceed with the tour after that happenend. Also, those 3 people had made it clear to both the tour leader, Nello, and to Luigi, that they did not want to participate in the complete tour of the ruins. I overhead Nello tell Luigi that he should show us the way to the antiquarium. All three of us indiividuals had visiited Pompeii previously. All we wanted to do was be directed to the antiquarium and maybe see some sites on our own if they were not too difficult to access. I was there with a friend who had never seen Pompeii so I wanted her to go on the full tour. However, when I explained this I was brushed aside and told that the antiquarium would only take 15 minutres to see and was hardly worth it, and that after a short climb, the rest of the site would be flat. That was completely untrue. It took about 15 minutes to ascend the steep climb, during which at least 5 of us lost radio contact with Luigi as he moved so fast and we only caught up with the rest of the group with some luck. Luigi didn't even seem to know he had lost 5 people from the group, and even worse, he did not care when we told him what happenend. He openly argued that he was not moving too quickly and when the 3 of us indicated that we just wanted to go to the antiquarrium, he did not give us any directions on how to get there. We asked a tour guide from another company to show us the way, which she kindly did. Needless to say we were flabbergasted at the very unprofessioinal treatment. After leaving the tour group, we did visit the antiquarium and I found that it occupied me for over an hour and was very enjoyable - it was not just the 15 minutes that had been suggested. It also turns out that there was a very easy paved pathway that we could have taken diirectly from the entrance to the antiquarium, but we were never told about that. There was no need for us to be forced to cliimb up that steep walkway. In contrast, we took a tour of Herculeneum the previous day (April 29), also booked through Viator. The guide on that tour was fantastic. She made sure that all of her group were always together. She was helpful with all of us with mobility issues and would find the most ideal places to go up or down steps, and knew when to tell us that we may not want to see something where the access could be beyond our capabiiities (e.g. descending a steep path to see the skeletons, whch a few of us chose not to do.) I mention this because the contrast between our guide at Herculaneum (I think her name was Dona) and with this Luigi at Pompeii was so unbelieveable. I know that one of the other members of the group (who is not in any way associated with me) has already lodged a complaint about this experience. His wife had injured her foot recently which was the reason for her limited mobility. As for me, I am recovering from knee replacement surgery 6 months ago. Your tour providers need to be more aware that many of the people who travel these days are seniors and will have various physical issues to contend with. If this is too much of a problem with your regular tour providers, then perhaps you should start offering special groups for persons with disabiities or limited mobiity. However, it was certainly not a problem for the guide at Herculeneum, nor for the guides we had for walking tours we took this trip in Rome, Florence, Sienna, and San Giminiano. All of these guides were able to accomodate inidividuals with limited mobility issues.

Perfect half day excursion to see Pompeii! We had convenient pick up and drop off with a tour guide who escorted us past all the lines to walk right in! The guide was great in sharing all the historical details and answered infinite questions! We highly recommend.

Thoroughly enjoyed this half day trip. It was easy to find the meeting place, Danielle was waiting to check everyone off her list. Once everyone arrived and had been given headsets, we set off on a short walk to meet the bus. It only took around 45 minutes to get to the site, Danielle gave a us bit of commentary on the way loibting out things of interest. Once we reached Pompeii, she explained meeting points and tines in case anyone got separated. Our guide around Pompeii itself was Monica who was lovely and very knowledgeable about the site. She took us to the most important buildings explaining things as we went along. You can do your own thing without a guide should you so wish but for me it was definately worth having someone show you around and pointing out fhe small things you could so easily miss. So glad we booked a morning visit as it was quite warm by the tine we got there. Skip the line tickets meant we got in relatively quickly just after it opened. Whilest there were quite a few people around, by the time we had finished our tour it was really busy. As the second most visited site in Italy I think we got away quite lightly with the crowds. Both Danielle and Monica really made the trip momorable, thanks to both ladies.

It’s not skip the line. You wait in line with everyone else, but it moves quickly. Our tour guide at Pompeii was okay - I wanted more information. We didn’t get to tour the museum on our own time - he ran through it and there was no gift shop time. I wanted a book. The guide on the bus was very nice and informative about the area.

An enthusiastic knowledgeable tour guide took us through with care to avoid crowds . Pompeii is amazing and the morning tour was just perfect for us. Just be careful the rocks at the entrance . You are looking up but the entrance has large square stones my husband opened his shin on.
