Pompeii Archaeological Park
Pompeii is a vast archaeological site in southern Italy’s Campania region, near the coast of the Bay of Naples. Once a thriving and sophisticated Roman city, Pompeii was buried under meters of ash and pumice after the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. The preserved site features excavated ruins of streets and houses that visitors can freely explore.

Met at a central location in Sorrento. Easily spotted the group and walked a few blocks to the bus. Nicoletta, our bus guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. The bus was spacious and comfortable for our 45 minute drive. The driver drove a scenic route throw the windy streets and Nicoletta told us about the area. Once we arrived, we had 20 minutes to use the bathroom and order refreshments. Nicoletta passed us off to a Pompei tour guide who walked us through a section of Pompei. It’s a very large city, so this tour only covers like a quarter of Pompei. She was very knowledgeable and took questions. We couldn’t stray far from the group, so if you’re trying to take photos and see something specifically, check with the guide on the areas they’re covering.

This tour is great if you want a quick but informative look at Pompeii. Our guide Lucio was great and was able to quickly show us all the important parts of Pompeii and explain their importance. This tour was great for us because it was towards the end of our trip so we were exhausted. If you want more time at the park or more importantly in the museum, I would recommend a longer tour. Would have loved to have seen more but was happy we chose this option.

Possibly the best, most comprehensive and informative experience we have had. Totally enhanced by our tour guide, Danny on the bus, and Micky (?) as the guide within Pompei. The enthusiasm for their love for and history of Pompei and the region was outstanding. A passionate detail of the city, its people and the events from destruction to the world heritage site it is today, sparked our interest in ancient history. We felt privileged to look into the lives of ancient Pompei people and would highly recommend this tour to everyone.

Louisa ("LuLu") was a very good tour guide. She proved to be both knowledgeable and engaging for the entirety of our tour. She had a great sense of humor and really made the tour fun, including giving a rival, disrespectful tour guide the business when he tried to push in front of us in line to an exhibit. Pompeii is a great history lesson and a wonderful place to visit. It is bigger than we expected, with little shade so make sure to plan accordingly.
