Pompeii Archaeological Park
Pompeii was an ancient Roman city near modern Naples in the Campania region of Italy, in the territory of the comune of Pompei. Pompeii, along with Herculaneum and many villas in the surrounding area (e.g. at Boscoreale, Stabiae), was buried under 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft) of volcanic ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79.
Basilica
The Basilica is the most sumptuous building of the Forum, and its space was used to carry out business and for the administration of justice

Roberta is a great guide—informed, knowledgeable, energetic. The bit about skipping the line? She really made that happen, in part by making sure we were among the first (if not THE first) tour group(s) to arrive. She helped us imagine what life was like for the Pompeians. Where they bought their fast food, how their forum was organized, how they lived in general. We loved the unguided Vesuvius hike. I have always wanted to peer down into the funnel of a volcano, a quiescent one anyway. The first half-mile of the hike is steeper than the typical hairpin trail; the rest of the trail is gentler. While there are two snack shops on the trail, there are facilities only at the base. The best views are at the end of the trail, but all the views—the Bay of Naples, the mountain ridge across the valley, the first glimpse into the volcano—are great. One of the hikers was late returning to the bus. You better believe Roberta wouldn’t let the bus leave without that hiker. She searched until she found the person.

The hike was not the easiest but you can go at your own pace. I saw people of all ages and various levels of fitness doing it. I took my time and did it.

Pompei is vast and if you’re the type who wants to see more and not stand to listen to the guide half the time, this is not for you. With only 2 hours (or less) the FOMO is real as you’re standing just listening to the history when we could have walked and talked. Guide explained her intent was to give you the background so that you can go back another day to see the rest of the 2/3 (yes, the tour barely covered 1/3) and understand what you’re looking at. MT Vesuvius was a nice climb. Guide did not accompany to the top, wasn’t necessary tho. It takes about 30 min with a couple of short stops to catch our breaths, quickly snap a couple of pictures and rush down. Only allocated about an hour at MV. Bus ride was comfortable and tour coordinator is very nice and took good care of the 30+ ppl in our group. Lunch stop is over priced, so see if you can opt of of the set menu and order on your own. We fell for the set menu €18 and it wasn’t really worth it

We paid for skip the line access but our guide took us to the back of the line with all the others that did not pay extra for skip the line. When I asked he said no one skips the line!!! He was not a very good guide !
