Pompeii Archaeological Park
Pompeii was an ancient Roman city near modern Naples in the Campania region of Italy, in the territory of the comune of Pompei. Pompeii, along with Herculaneum and many villas in the surrounding area (e.g. at Boscoreale, Stabiae), was buried under 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft) of volcanic ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79.

Interesting trip with guide Roberta. Was hot as almost no shade. Climb to Vesuvius not very difficult. Overall very good.

It was pretty legal. Our guide took us to Pompeii and told the stories at different points and took us to the main places, after all there is huge. Then we went to Mount Vesuvius and climbed 1km on foot to the volcano crater. Great experience and trip. Not to mention that all the journeys we went by air-conditioned buses, after all it was quite warm in Naples - Pompeii.

DON'T BOOK! They will charge you full price tickets, even on the days that the parks are free (every first sunday of the month). Also, they will not wait for you. Our meeting time was 8:15 am, and even with a late bus and a text message letting them know that we might be late, we managed to get there only 2 minutes late. There are no signs to guide you to your bus and there were at least 10 different drivers waiting for people. It's up to you to figure out which is yours. So we had to go up to all of them individually, only to find out they had left without us. They offered no solutions, no re-booking and not even a partial refund. Terrible waste of money. In my opinion, you can easily take a train to the site and buy your ticket there. The parc staff was incredible, quick and efficient. We had tickets and a tour for a fraction of the price (25€ compared to 333$). We were also able to get tickets for Herculaneun that same day, again, for free. Don't waste your money, go straight to the parks, as this was a total scam.

Great tour. Unfortunately it rained during our tour of Pompeii, but we still saw just about everything. Mt. Vesuvius was great

Pompeii was mesmeric and our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and informative. I highly recommend this part of the trip. We will be visiting again when the amphitheatres are open. It would have been more honest if the tour operator had told us these parts of Pompeii are not visited by the tour, due to the amphitheatres being used for concerts June - August. Mount Vesuvius was a bit of a let down and I would strongly advise against spending your money on it -especially as doubling it up with the Pompeii tour makes it so expensive. It was like travelling to see an old quarry with cheap and nasty stalls on the way up. It was very tacky, and the Tour operator should definitely have given prior warning about the slippy nature of the paths up! Sturdy shoes required! On the whole, it was overpriced, but a good day out, despite the tour operator's poor communication at time of booking.
