Loch Ness
Leaving Inverness behind, we follow the mysterious shores of Loch Ness — so keep your eyes peeled, you never know when Nessie might make an appearance! As the road winds between rugged hills, past shadowy lochans and across wild, windswept glens, your guide will bring the landscape to life with tales of tragedy, resilience, and rebellion. You’ll discover how centuries of turbulent history shaped not just the people of the Highlands, but also the hauntingly beautiful, empty landscapes spread out before you today. After passing the 5 Sisters of Kintail we will soon see Loch Duich which welcomes us, after 2 hours driving, to Scotland’s wonderful west coast.
Eilean Donan Castle
We’ll stop at one of the world’s most photographed castles — the iconic Eilean Donan. You’ll recognise it from films like Highlander and even James Bond, yet nothing compares to seeing its fairytale silhouette in person. We’ll pause for around 10 minutes at the classic viewpoint to soak up the romance (and, of course, snap that all-important photo!). From here, it’s just a short drive to the Skye Bridge. Please note that we don’t have time to go inside the castle.

Tim, our driver, did an excellent job showing us Isle of Skye. Being from the states, we would not do well driving a rental car. We are so glad this tour was an option as we are big hikers! We did have an amazing weather day too!

We were wowed at every turn (sometimes literally) by Murdoch's storytelling, knowledge of history and attention to detail. My husband and I were truly impressed by how seamlessly each stop along the way flowed, and skill with which Murdoch navigated the group dynamics while effortlessly telling tales from history that matched up with areas we were passing through or locations where we were about to stop. The hikes were well managed and described with enough detail that each person could decide what were appropriate paths that matches their level of ability and interest. I'm often anxious about a tour not having enough bathroom breaks, but this one had plenty of stops at good intervals to avoid anyone being uncomfortable. The boxed lunch available for purchase from the Isle of Skye Baking Company was a step up from the typical tour options of sandwiches from a convenience store, and the bonus of picking up the lunches at the attached art gallery gave those of us who were interested a chance to purchase some gorgeous keepsakes from local artists. The bakery owner included a wee treat in each box that was an extra special touch. The area itself is simply stunning, and the hikes are well chosen to give a variety of different views and experiences. One of the stops was at a special spot where no other buses or tourists were present. We could see tourists on a very busy trail, but we had a great view from where we were, with the place to ourselves. This is not the cheapest tour available, but we found the value for the cost to be exceptional. We would recommend it in a heartbeat, and already have!
