Please bring good, hiking shoes (high on the ankle), warm and waterproof clothing, hat and gloves.
A small amount of walking is involved (about an hour on the glacier itself, with multiple stops)

What To Expect
Begin your adventure at Sólheimajökull Base Camp, where your certified glacier guide will outfit you with crampons, helmet, harness, and an ice axe. After a full safety briefing, you’ll take a short walk to the glacier and step onto this spectacular frozen world. During the guided hike, you’ll explore dramatic ice formations, deep crevasses, and vibrant shades of glacier ice — from crystal clear to deep blue. Your guide will share fascinating stories about how glaciers form, move, and interact with Iceland’s volcanic landscape, as well as the effects of climate change on these icy giants. This easy and short glacier walk is designed for beginners — no technical skills needed. 5.00My husband and I had the most amazing hike. Small group of 6 in total AND the only group on the glacier. Oskar was the best. He was knowledgeable and careful to make sure we were safe and enjoying ourselves. Highly recommend this tour!!!

5.00This hike with our excellent sympathetic guide Carla-Paz was top notch, and great views of the glacier. Our guide gave clear explanations about this glacier and she was also very helpful when it went steeper or on difficult descents. Highly recommended!!

5.00I had such a great time today. The tour was beautiful, very well organized and instructed. Our guide, Lasse, did an excellent job guiding us and chose a difficulty level that suited the whole group perfectly. We visited some stunning spots, and I felt comfortable and well taken care of the entire time. It was an amazing and fun experience, especially getting to try something completely new!

5.00We had a magical experience on the glaciers!! Climbing it and appreciating it from such a close distance and the immersive feeling is so amazing and hard to describe. Still find it hard to believe that we are able to climb up on something so grand of a scale and ancient, then understanding what’s nature and our planet. Our guide Silvia was so friendly, knowledgeable and charismatic! She absolutely killed it on teaching us techniques on how to put crampons on / how to place foot etc and she is clear in communication as well as giving everyone freedom to trial and error (which I love)! She’s very empathetic as well and attentive for the whole group, we had a slightly younger teenager in our group who was exhausted and had a small breakdown and she handled it professionally and nicely too I would absolutely love to book more adventures with Silvia :) grazie!!

5.00Thanks to all of the staff, especially our guide Silvia, for this once in a lifetime experience. Silvia is knowledgeable about the scientific and cultural aspects of the glacier and the area. She is also friendly and patient earning high marks from my teens. Because I’ve attached photos, here’s some other helpful info. The hike is not difficult, but it’s not super easy either. Silvia supports you and emphasizes your safety throughout. Iceland was unusually warm for this time of year so we got pretty wet going in and out of the caves. Wear waterproof boots and bring a second set of clothes just in case. They do gear you up before the hike so you have to arrive before the tour begins as stated on the ticket.

5.00Had a great experience with our guide Andrea who was super fun and knowledgeable! They gave us ice gear like crampons, ice axes, and harnesses along with an overview on how to use everything. The hike was incredible and the views were incredible. Andrea also gave us a lot of history and information about the glacier!
