The Geltscher hike on the Sólheimajökull was definitely one of the highlights of our Iceland trip in July/August 2020. Well equipped with harness, crampon, ice pick and helmet we went on a exploration tour. Already on the bus our guide Solve told all sorts of interesting things about these impressive giants. It didn't take long and his enthusiasm and fascination jumped to us. So we strapped the climbing irons under our shoes under his watchful eyes and set out on the ascent. He patiently took time to answer our questions, providing inspiration for impressive photographic subjects while always keeping our safety and well-being in mind. At the sight of deep blue "glacial caves" that will be "washed away" in just a few weeks, ash-covered peaks that were actually the bottom of an ice hole, the sound of splashing water and the rumbling of the constantly moving ice, one cannot help but look reverently at the summit to become aware of this impressive experience. Hard to imagine and sad that these giants are shrinking ever further and ever faster... Thanks, Solve and the Icelandic Mountain Guides! Clear recommendation!

1/4 hour after attacking the glacier, our guide told us that some of the ice had collapsed and that we could not go any further. We have not been offered even partial refunds. On our way back down, we met several groups that continued to climb towards the glacier even though they were going to have to turn around like us. I understand the safety measures, but I do not understand why this company continues to offer this expensive excursion when it is greatly reduced.

Had a great time. So unique and got beautiful photos. Best to be in shape as you’ll get winded during some parts. But it’s doable! Def. a must do!!

We had a great afternoon with Ólöf! Splendid weather accompanied us on this glacier hiking and ice climbing excursion. Ólöf was a great teacher for our first ice climbing and helped make this day a great experience. Thank you very much!

Did the 4 hour glacier hike as part of a group of ~12 ppl and had a truly amazing experience and we stays at top of the glacier until after sundown. Our tour guide was Agata whose passion for her job was infectious and created a great atmosphere amongst the group. I would recommend this to anyone visiting the area - it was the highlight of my 10 day visit to the beautiful Iceland.

This was the first time I did glacier hike. I worried a bit about my body and the intensity. But it turned out alright. Ourr guide Mr. T was fabulous. He was energetic and knowledgeable about ice and the glacier. He taught us many things about the glacier and I can tell he loves his job. I would recommend yhis activity to all my friends traveliing in iceland.

First, ask for Magnus! He was great! We were a small party of 4 and our 4 hour hike turned into a 5 hour hike we were having so much fun. It's beautiful, the climb is fun, and Magnus is a great guide. I would recommend our guide and this company to anyone. Don't miss this if you go to Iceland!

Sólheimajökull is a beautiful glacier and Arcanum Glacier Tours / Icelandic Mountain Guides run an incredibly professional with not only an eye for a scenic route but always 10/10 on safety at any time during the tour. Our guide Josh was an exceptionally knowledgable and entertaining guide, a real star who should be paid more.
