What To Expect
Ile aux Aigrettes Nature Reserve
Ile aux Aigrettes stands as a testament of the efforts made over the years by the Mauritian Wildlife Fund for the preservation of Mauritius' endemic fauna and flora. The natural reserve – situated about 800m from the mainland’s coastline – thrives in thick vegetation, typical of Mauritius' coastal areas. Visitors are accompanied by guides for 1 hour 30 minutes trail to better discover an ebony forest, which used to be home to the dodo, as well as a nursery of thousands young plants, the ruins of an ancient limekiln and a stunning view of the Mahebourg bay. More importantly, you are likely to come across members of the local fauna: the Mauritian gecko, the Pink Pigeon, the Telfair skink (still endangered today) and the giant Aldabra tortoise, which was introduced to replace Mauritius’ two endemic species of land tortoise, now officially extinct. If you are lucky, you might also catch a glimpse of the Mauritian Kestrel, saved from extinction and roaming free in the island’s forest.

5.00My husband and I pre booked a private catamaran eco tour for the day after our wedding in Mauritius. The trip was booked from England, super easy process to book, excellent communication with booking office, never felt pushy before we booked either which for me was important. Our day trip was amazing, the staff went above and beyond to make our day special, super friendly and attentive on board. Lovely snorkeling spot and we enjoyed our tour around the island. Brilliant food, fresh and a great variety, really well cooked, great selection of drinks. I would highly recommend 👌

5.00Our catamaran trip was just beautiful! The crew is incredibly friendly and they showed us the most beautiful places you can imagine. For part of our trip, we were accompanied by dolphins and the crew pointed out sea turtles swimming near to us that we wouldn't have discovered ourselves. They made our every wish come true, the barbecue is fantastic and everything is prepared and organized very, very well. The day was "balm for our souls". The prior contact (booking and reservation) was also absolutely great! Thank you to the whole team for this lovely experience and that we could spent this wonderful day. The Eco Tour includes a guided one hour excursion to Ile aux Aigrettes, where you have the chance to see giant tortoises, pink pigeons, endemic plants, fruit bats and you get a very good explanation, how the foundation managed to bring back the original fauna and flora. This was very impressing.
