Discover one of Lima’s hidden gems: the Presbítero Matías Maestro Cemetery, built in 1808 and considered the oldest public cemetery in the Americas. This stunning historic complex feels like an open-air museum, filled with neoclassical mausoleums, sculptures, and the tombs of Peru’s most notable figures.
Highlights include the impressive Crypt of Heroes, a national memorial dedicated to those who fought in the War of the Pacific, and themed pavilions that reveal how society once understood life, death, and history — including the Pavilion of Suicides, which today serves as a reminder of how attitudes toward mental health have changed over time.
Perfect for travelers seeking culture, architecture, and stories you won’t hear in conventional tours. A truly unique look at Lima’s heritage!

We had a great tour. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly. Cost was fair and our guide spent a lot of time explaining the highlights. The cemetery was something we had never seen before.

Our guide, Juan, had a wealth of knowledge that ranged from Peruvian history, the church in Peru, wars fought in Peru, and the dark magic arts. A very informative and entertaining afternoon.

Incredible experience! Highlight of my time in Lima for sure, but would recommend to everyone. Will definitely be using Peruvian Worldview next time I visit.

The highlight of my short time in Lima! This was such an amazing tour. It was unique and fascinating to see and learn about both the catacombs and the cemetery. I’ve always had a love for bones and cemeteries and having a private tour getting to learn about the Peruvian death traditions was an incredible experience. Our guide was awesome! Jean had a unique perspective on everything we saw and was very knowledgeable about more than just the catacombs and the cemetery. If you have any interest in activities slightly off the beaten path, or the darker side of Lima, I definitely recommend this tour! It was even better than I expected!

The cemetery tour was the best part of tour. It was nice to spend all my time there as I had already been to the catacombs. My guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the cemetery, the layout, and stories of people there. This cemetery is huge with streets. Now it is a museum. Definitely recommend tour if you have a few hours in Lima.

Very interesting and informative. If you are interested in something a little different take this tour. Renzo was the best tour guide. He took his time explaining everything. I listened to a couple of other tour guides and they left out all the best parts. Juan was also a great driver and very efficient getting us around the city.

Marco was our tour guide and he was fantastic. Really knowledgeable about many things, even outside of the funeral industry in Lima. Looking into the death of a culture can tell you a lot about how life is lived there. We talked a lot about the practicalities of burial but we also talked spooky stuff too. Highly recommend this tour.

Great history of Lima and interesting facts about both the catacombs and cemetery. Never felt rushed and really enjoyed my entire trip

The history of the Franciscans and their installations is very interesting (although I don't agree with so much wealth) but the show is the catacombs with the bones and anti-earthquake structure... and the belief of the grantees...
